Auto sales rise by 24% in October

Updated: 10:27, 14/11/2025

Members of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association sold a combined 37,910 vehicles in October, up 24% from the previous month as the market rebounded from a sluggish first half.

The growth reflects a recovery in consumer demand, ample supply and the appeal of promotional programmes during the year-end shopping season, according to the latest report by the association, which comprises more than a dozen major auto companies.

Cars produced at a factory in Hai Phong City, northern Vietnam.

Of the vehicles sold in October, 27,246 were passenger cars, up 33% from September. Commercial vehicles accounted for 10,162 units, up 6.6%, while special-purpose vehicles fell 15% to 502 units. Sales of locally assembled vehicles rose 19% to 17,129 while those of completely built-up (CBU) imports surged 28% to 20,781.

SUVs, sedans and MPVs remained the most popular segments, reflecting urban mobility needs.

Experts attributed the surge to a combination of factors, such as aggressive promotional campaigns, improved supply chains, looser consumer credit, lower interest rates, rising urban demand and the launch of multiple new models from Japanese, Korean, Chinese and European brands.

For the first ten months, VAMA members sold a total of 289,331 units, up 9.5% year-on-year.

Sales of domestic assembly increased by 2%, while those of imports jumped 18%, indicating a growing consumer preference for imported vehicles with diverse designs and advanced technology.

However, industry experts noted that VAMA’s figures might not represent the full market as the association does not include VinFast and Hyundai, the two leading carmakers by market share in Vietnam, and some other brands like Audi, BYD and Jaguar Land Rover.

VinFast delivered a record 20,380 electric vehicles in October, bringing its total for the first ten months of 2025 to 124,264 units, the highest-ever for a Vietnamese automaker.

This milestone cements VinFast’s leadership in the electric vehicle segment and marks its contribution to the local automotive industry.

Vietnam’s auto market is accelerating towards a promising year-end. The influx of new models, growing demand for imported cars, and VinFast’s record performance are shaping a dynamic, competitive, and technology-driven industry landscape.
