Bac Ninh intellectuals and desire to contribute
BAC NINH - The northern province of Bac Ninh has recorded rapid economic and social gains in recent years, emerging as one of Vietnam’s top performers in growth and investment attraction. Behind that progress stands a large community of scholars, scientists and innovators who, whether born in the province or choosing it as their professional base, share a common aspiration: to devote their expertise and commitment to Bac Ninh’s development.
According to Ngo Chi Vinh, Chairman of the provincial Union of Science and Technology Associations, Bac Ninh has long been known as a land of learning and talent. More than half of the laureates listed at the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first national university, were historically from the former Kinh Bac region.

Today, more than 122,000 intellectuals are active across all sectors of local life. Their projects and solutions, Vinh said, have helped introduce new technologies, reduce production costs, increase productivity and quality, support environmental protection, address challenges faced by enterprises and, importantly, inspire new thinking for the province’s development path.
To recognise these contributions, Bac Ninh has organised its inaugural ceremony honouring “Outstanding Bac Ninh Intellectuals” alongside the 2025 provincial Science and Technology Awards and the First Bac Ninh Technical Innovation Contest. The event aims to celebrate talent, encourage research and promote a culture of innovation and risk-taking.
After several rounds of evaluation, 68 individuals were selected for recognition, including five first-prize winners of the innovation contest, one artist awarded the title “People’s Artist,” and 62 newly appointed professors and associate professors.
Professor Nguyen Viet Khoa, Deputy Director of the Institute of Mechanics under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, returned to his hometown Yen Trung for the ceremony.
“I am always proud to be from Bac Ninh, and my greatest passion is passing on knowledge through teaching generations of students and researchers,” he said. “This title makes me even prouder because it reflects trust in the real contributions of scientists like us.”
Khoa has led five ministerial-level research projects, published more than 80 scientific papers in reputable domestic and international journals, and holds a patent and a utility solution. He was awarded the title of professor in 2022.
One of the youngest honorees is Associate Professor Dang Kinh Bac, born in 1989 in Kinh Bac ward. Now Deputy Head of the Department of Geomorphology and Marine Environment Geography at Vietnam National University, Hanoi, he became an associate professor at age 35 and completed his doctoral programme in Germany at 29. He has authored 73 scientific works, including 34 international papers, 20 of them as lead author.
“Wherever I work, I always want to return and contribute to my hometown,” he said. “I hope to collaborate with local authorities in areas such as environmental management, climate resilience and urban flooding. With the encouragement provided by Resolution 57, I believe young scientists will continue to channel their energy into research and innovation to deliver solutions with high practical value.”
Another award recipient, Dr. Vu Quang Khue, principal of Bac Ninh College of Industry, presented his research on using a gold-nanoparticle-modified electrochemical sensor to rapidly detect Salmonella and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The project won a B-class prize at the 2025 provincial science awards.
“Being immersed in a scientific environment with leading experts brings great value,” Khue said. “Although our research took 15 years of effort and experiments conducted both inside and outside Vietnam, feedback from the scientific community is helping us refine the work.”

Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Hong Thai and Nguyen Quyet Chien, secretary-general of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, present the title “Outstanding Bac Ninh Intellectual” to Associate Professor Dang Kinh Bac. |
As the head of a vocational training institution, he said the college will continue to advance research in digital transformation and green transition, improve project management and shorten research timelines to ensure clarity, reduce duplication and enhance the novelty and impact of scientific results.
As Vietnam accelerates industrialisation, modernisation and the application of Industry 4.0 technologies, the role of intellectuals is increasingly emphasised. Bac Ninh’s Union of Science and Technology Associations plans to strengthen networks linking local and expatriate scientists from the province, propose policies that support research and innovation, and promote the practical application of scientific results.
The organisation will also expand communication efforts and improve the design of contests and awards to create more space for scientists and citizens to explore new ideas.
Through these efforts, Bac Ninh aims to position science, technology and innovation as a strategic resource “the ignition point for breakthroughs” and a decisive factor in the province’s competitiveness in the digital era.
