Bac Ninh schoolgirl wins bronze at 2025 International Mathematical Olympiad
BAC NINH – Truong Thanh Xuan, an 11th grader at Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted, has won a bronze medal at the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) held in Australia from July 10 to 20.
Xuan is the only female member of Vietnam’s IMO team since 2020.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training announced on July 19 that the national team ranked ninth out of 113 participating countries and territories, with all six members winning medals. The team secured two golds, three silvers and one bronze.
The two gold medals went to Vo Trong Khai, a 12th grader at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted in Nghe An province and Tran Minh Hoang, a 12th grader at Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted in Ha Tinh province.

The silver medals were awarded to Nguyen Dang Dung, grade 12 and Nguyen Dinh Tung, grade 11, both from the High School for Gifted Students under Hanoi University of Science; and Le Phan Duc Man, grade 12, from Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted in Ho Chi Minh City.
The bronze medal was claimed by Truong Thanh Xuan, grade 11, from Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted.
Vietnam’s team achieved a total score of 188 points, ranking ninth overall. This marks a significant improvement compared to 2024 when the team won two silvers, three bronzes and one honourable mention.

The 66th IMO gathered 639 contestants representing 113 countries and territories. This was the second time Australia hosted the IMO, following the first in 1988.
The closing and award ceremony took place at 16:00 local time on July 19.
