In Gia Binh and Luong Tai communes, construction sites for various components of the Gia Binh International Airport project remain bustling around the clock.

The air traffic control tower is being built at a rapid pace.

Vu Binh, chief site commander for the entire project, said APEC-related facilities are being developed simultaneously in line with the set plan.

Key components, including the air traffic control tower, VIP terminal, runway and related technical infrastructure, are being built at a rapid pace while closely following the project's overall schedule.

To meet the demanding requirements, project contractors have mobilised the necessary personnel, equipment and resources and organised construction on multiple fronts. Working hours have also been extended, with some components being built in two or three shifts a day.

“In the coming period, the project will focus intensively on facilities directly serving the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economci Leaders’ Week 2027 (APEC 2027), particularly the runway. At the same time, all parties will further strengthen coordination, mobilise resources and closely monitor construction progress to promptly address any difficulties and bottlenecks that arise,” Binh said.

The hectic pace of work at the construction sites reflects the strong determination and tremendous efforts of the project developer and contractors.

All are pooling resources and making every effort to complete the facilities on schedule, with the goal of putting Gia Binh International Airport into trial operations and serving APEC 2027.

According to the plan, Gia Binh airport is expected to begin test flights by the end of this year before entering operation to serve APEC 2027. Core facilities are gradually taking shape and being completed on schedule.

Given the project's urgency, authorities from the central to local levels have mobilised maximum resources for its implementation.

Bac Ninh provincial leaders have regularly conducted field inspections and promptly addressed difficulties, while paying close attention to social welfare and the livelihoods of residents temporarily relocated while resettlement areas are being completed.

According to the provincial Land Fund Development Centre, in Gia Binh commune alone, compensation, support and resettlement plans have so far been approved for 492.52 hectares, equivalent to 99% of the target. Site clearance for the area serving APEC has been fully completed.

In Luong Tai commune, site clearance has reached 97.2%, with the APEC area also fully cleared.

Following field inspections and meetings with relevant agencies and specialised units, Pham Van Thinh, member of the provincial Party Committee’s Standing and Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, said the airport project's site clearance was not only the result of concerted efforts by the entire political system but also reflected the sacrifices made by local residents who “gave up their land and homes” to make way for the national project.

“These are noble acts that demonstrate a commitment to the common good and the future development of our homeland. Local authorities deeply appreciate and thank residents for their support and solidarity, and remain committed to caring for their lives in their new homes,” he said.

The province is directing efforts to accelerate the completion of resettlement areas so that residents can soon build new homes and settle down.

It is also implementing policies to create jobs and support livelihoods, helping them establish stable lives and livelihoods in their new communities, he added.

The Gia Binh International Airport project covers approximately 1,960 hectares across four communes: Gia Binh, Luong Tai, Nhan Thang and Lam Thao. Site clearance has made significant progress and can be described as moving at a “breakneck pace” for a large-scale, nationally important project.
