Hanoi and Kuala Lumpur (19 spots) were assessed by the EIU as the “climbers” from Asia-Pacific with high improvements after their Covid-19 restrictions were lifted.

Asia-Pacific has made impressive gains in this year’s rankings. New Zealand cities Wellington and Auckland have soared by 35 places to 23rd place and 25 spots to 10th place, respectively.

In the opposite direction, the UK's Edinburgh City dropped 23 places to 58th and the Swedish capital of Stockholm fell 22 places to 43rd. The two US cities of Los Angeles and San Diego fell down the rankings to 57th and 61st, respectively. The UK’s Manchester and the Netherlands’ Rotterdam both dropped 16 places to tie at 44th.

Austria’s Vienna continues to top the rankings for 2023, with its winning combination of stability, good culture and entertainment, reliable infrastructure, and exemplary education and health services.

The city, which has occupied the top position several times over the years, was closely followed by Denmark’s Copenhagen, which retained its second-place position.
