Bac Ninh commences project to restore Ham Long pagoda national relic site

BAC NINH- The people’s committee of Nam Son ward on October 12 organised a ceremony at Ham Long pagoda to commence the restoration and embellishment project of Ham Long pagoda national historic site.

Ham Long is one of the famous ancient pagodas in Kinh Bac region, built in 17th century under the Ly dynasty, situated at the foot of Dam mountain in Thai Bao village, Nam Son ward.

The provincial leaders present congratulation flowers.

The pagoda was ranked as a national historical and cultural relic site in 1988. It is associated with the cultural and religious practices as well as spiritual life of Bac Ninh people.

This relic is preserving many valuable artifacts and antiquities such as the old Buddha statues and 14 ancient tomb towers dating back Tran, Hau Le and Nguyen dynasties, ancient horizontal lacquered boards, parallel couplets and wooden altar screens.

Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Vuong Quoc Tuan and representative of Vietnam Buddhist Sangha perform the traditional wood-cutting ritual.

The project to restore and embellish Ham Long pagoda covers an area of 1.62 hectares including the items of the three-jewel building, 2 corridors, ancestors’ house, internal three-entrance gate, head monk’s tower, Ksitigarbha Shrine, stele house, toilets and garden campus.

The delegates perform rituals to commence the project.

Of which, the main architectural items will be restored following traditional styles using natural materials such as iron wood, green stone, shoe-shaped tiles and reproduced Bat Trang bricks to maintain original architecture and traditional aesthetic values.

Besides, the item of Ksitigarbha Shrine will be built to satisfy the spiritual needs of a large number of Buddhist followers from near and far who come to pray for peace and salvation.

The project construction is scheduled from 2025 to 2027 with the fund resources mobilised from the society.

The restoration and embellishment of Ham Long pagoda is not only to preserve the historical, architectural and artistic values of the relic but also to create a highlight in the cultural and historical space around Dam mountain.

After completion, the project is expected to become a destination for domestic and foreign visitors to come for sightseeing and worshipping.

Besides, it will serve as a place to educate people about national traditions and guide them toward the values of truth, goodness, and beauty.
