Bac Ninh gears up for landmark UNESCO recognition celebration, heritage festival

BAC NINH - Mai Son, member of the provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board and Permanent Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, on February 24 chaired a meeting to review preparations for the ceremony to receive a UNESCO certificate recognising Dong Ho folk painting as an Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding.

The event also announces the recognition of the Yen Tu – Vinh Nghiem – Con Son, Kiep Bac Complex of Monuments and Landscapes as a World Cultural Heritage site, and to open the “Returning to the Heritage Land 2026” Festival.

The UNESCO certificate receiving ceremony and the opening of the festival are scheduled for the evening of March 28 at February 3 Square.

The event will be broadcast live on Vietnam Television and simultaneously relayed by radio and television stations in several provinces and cities nationwide.

Throughout the festival, a series of distinctive cultural, artistic, sports and tourism activities will be held in various localities across the province.

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism - the standing agency of the Organising Committee, key tasks have so far closely followed the plan of the provincial People’s Committee.

The main script for the art programme at the ceremony has been developed, while detailed plans for the ceremonial segment, heritage performance spaces, exhibitions, displays, and festival-related sports and tourism activities are being finalised.

Reception, logistics, communications, and security arrangements are being proactively implemented by relevant departments and agencies in line with their assigned responsibilities.

The event is expected to welcome around 1,600 delegates, including central government officials, international guests, and representatives from other provinces and cities.

The heritage performance space will feature intangible cultural heritages recognised by UNESCO, with participation from localities such as Hue, Da Nang, Dak Lak, Lao Cai, Ca Mau and Phu Tho, creating a highlight for cultural exchange and promoting the unique identities of regions across the country.
