Bac Ninh launches 2026 campaign to support the poor

Updated: 11:28, 07/10/2026

BAC NINH - Bac Ninh city on October 6 launched a campaign to raise funds for its poor and disadvantaged residents, as authorities seek to strengthen social welfare and sustainable poverty reduction.

The campaign was organised by the Standing Committee of the Bac Ninh city Fatherland Front Committee and the city’s Fund for the Poor.

Municipal leaders present gifts to students from disadvantaged families who have excelled in their studies at the event.

Senior city officials, including Standing Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee Nguyen Thi Huong and Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Pham Hoang Son, attended the event.

Poverty reduction and social welfare have remained key priorities alongside economic development and investment attraction, with local authorities highlighting contributions from businesses, donors and residents.

During the 2021-2025 period, Bac Ninh completed a programme to replace temporary and dilapidated housing, building or repairing more than 5,600 homes at a total cost of over 195.3 billion VND (over 7.5 million USD). Tens of thousands of scholarships, livestock and livelihood-support packages were also provided to poor households.

In the first nine months of 2026, the city’s Fund for the Poor supported 176 poor households in building new “Great Solidarity” homes, worth a combined 17.6 billion VND.

Nguyen Thi Ha, Chairwoman of the city Fatherland Front Committee and head of the Fund for the Poor’s mobilisation board, called on government agencies, businesses, donors and residents to contribute to the campaign, saying broader social support was needed to help people escape poverty sustainably.

At the launch, organisations, businesses and individuals donated more than 102 million VND directly and pledged more than 51 billion VND. Major pledges included 15 billion VND from the Bac Ninh Young Entrepreneurs Association and 10 billion VND from industrial park infrastructure developers.

Twenty students from poor and near-poor households who had achieved strong academic results also received gifts worth a total 232 million VND.
