Bac Ninh plants nearly 37,000 trees at start of Lunar New Year

Updated: 13:48, 25/02/2026

BAC NINH – Nearly 37,000 trees have been planted across Bac Ninh province as part of the “Tet tree-planting festival in eternal gratitude to late President Ho Chi Minh” at the start of the Year of the Horse 2026.

According to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, by February 24 (the eighth day of the first lunar month), more than 80 communes, wards, agencies and units had launched the annual tree-planting campaign.

Officials and Youth Union members in Yen Dung ward take part in the 2026 Lunar New Year tree-planting festival.

Following Plan No. 43/KH-UBND dated February 10, 2026 issued by the provincial People’s Committee, the campaign has been rolled out simultaneously from February 22 to March 19 (from the sixth day of the Lunar New Year to the first day of the second lunar month).

The early spring launch has created a vibrant and competitive atmosphere across localities.

As of February 24, nearly 37,000 trees had been planted, exceeding the initial target by almost 13,000 trees.

The species selected are mainly large, long-term, multi-purpose timber trees such as Taiwan almond, Hopea odorata, yellow bells, tabebuia, Cinnamomum parthenoxylon, ironwood, Chukrasia tabularis and mahogany, chosen to suit local soil and climate conditions.

In 2026, Bac Ninh aims to plant 10,000 hectares of concentrated forests, mainly production forests, along with 2.14 million scattered trees. The province also targets the development of around 1,300 hectares of large-timber plantations and the conversion of nearly 1,900 hectares of small-timber forests into large-timber forests.
