In recent years, the area planted with citrus fruits has tended to decline, but yields and quality have gradually improved.

Instead of expanding cultivated areas, many localities, cooperatives and growers have focused on intensive farming techniques, VietGAP and organic production, as well as selecting suitable varieties and adjusting growing seasons to extend the harvest period and increase the value generated from each unit of land.

This year, the province has about 5,200 hectares of pomelo, equivalent to 95.1% of last year's area. Yield is estimated at 9.4 tonnes per hectare, up 16% from 2024 and 2.2% from 2025, while total output is expected to reach 47,000 tonnes.

More than 3,600 hectares of the current pomelo-growing area are cultivated under VietGAP standards. Major varieties include Dien pomelo, green-skinned pomelo, sweet pomelo, which are grown mainly in the communes and wards of Luc Ngan, Chu, Phuong Son, Nam Duong, Deo Gia, Bien Dong, Luc Son, Yen The, Kien Lao and Van Son.

In major pomelo-growing areas, farmers have begun harvesting early-ripening varieties. Depending on fruit size and appearance, traders are buying pomelo directly from orchards at an average price of 20,000-22,000 VND per fruit.

Pomelo trees are planted relatively sparsely and are long-lived, producing fruit with an average weight of 1.8-2 kg. The fruit has a mildly sweet taste and has attracted orders from traders in many provinces and cities.

The orange crop is also expected to produce a good harvest. The province has about 2,600 hectares of orange trees, with estimated yields of 11.2 tonnes per hectare, up from last year, and total output of around 27,000 tonnes.

Of the total orange-growing area, about 1,700 hectares are cultivated under VietGAP standards. Major varieties include Canh oranges, green oranges, Xoan oranges and Thai oranges. The main harvest season runs from October to February.

Traders have begun setting up collection points for oranges and pomelo along National Highway 31, particularly in areas of Phuong Son, Luc Ngan and Chu.

The products are currently sold mainly on the domestic market through supermarkets, clean food stores and wholesale markets.

As part of activities marking the establishment of Bac Ninh city, the provincial People's Committee is organising the Northern Regional Industry and Trade Fair - Bac Ninh 2026, while the provincial Farmers' Association is holding a safe agricultural products market to promote the province's signature farm products to consumers.
