Updated: 21:10, 01/11/2026

BAC NINH - Bac Ninh City is seeking support from Lions Clubs International to upgrade educational facilities and improve learning conditions at local schools, as part of efforts to expand educational opportunities and strengthen human resource development.

On October 30, Mai Son, Standing Committee member of the Bac Ninh Municipal Party Committee and Standing Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, held a meeting with a delegation from Lions Clubs International, led by Kwon Sung Tae, the association’s First Vice President and Chairman of District 354-D in South Korea.

The discussions focused on potential funding and support for school infrastructure, equipment and better learning conditions at educational institutions across the city.

Founded in 1917 and headquartered in the United States, Lions Clubs International is a non-profit humanitarian volunteer organisation with approximately 1.4 million members and 50,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and territories.

Through its global network of clubs and international partners, Lions Clubs International runs various community support programmes, including upgrading school facilities, providing educational equipment, assisting disadvantaged children and expanding access to education.

At the meeting, the Standing Vice Chairman Mai Son briefed the delegation on Bac Ninh’s development, highlighting the city's long-standing tradition of valuing education and academic achievement.

In recent years, the city has continued to improve both general education and the quality of specialised teaching, with local students achieving strong results in domestic and international competitions.

Vocational training and workforce development have also been strengthened to meet labour market demands and support the expansion of local industries and services.

Bac Ninh has maintained strong economic growth and consolidated its position as one of Vietnam’s major industrial centres, supported by a dynamic investment environment that has attracted numerous domestic and foreign businesses.

South Korea is among the city's most important investment partners, accounting for a significant number of projects and a substantial share of its foreign investment capital.

Cooperation between Bac Ninh and South Korean partners has extended beyond manufacturing and business activities, with considerable potential for expansion into education, vocational training, technology transfer and social welfare programmes, he said.

He expressed hope that Lions Clubs International would continue to connect the city with international investors, organisations and partners interested in exploring cooperation opportunities, particularly initiatives supporting education and vocational training to improve the quality of the local workforce.

He also called on the association to assess the actual needs of local educational institutions and consider providing funding and assistance to build or upgrade facilities, thereby creating better learning environments for students.

The city also hopes to receive the association's experience and support for disadvantaged areas and vulnerable groups, including children in difficult circumstances and people with disabilities, helping them gain better access to education, personal development and community integration.

For his part, Kwon Sung Tae and other delegation members discussed the association's ongoing programmes in various countries and plans for implementation in Vietnam.

They also explored opportunities to mobilise support from Lions clubs, businesses, funding organisations and international partners for humanitarian activities tailored to Bac Ninh's needs.

Priority areas include assistance for disadvantaged students, improvements to learning conditions, enhanced foreign language and technology skills, and investment in school infrastructure.

The two sides also discussed funding requirements, proposal submission procedures, coordination mechanisms and contact points to facilitate the development of specific cooperation programmes.

The initiatives are expected to further strengthen friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and South Korea, particularly between Bac Ninh City and South Korean partners.

As part of the visit, the Lions Clubs International delegation conducted a field survey at Phu Nhuan Primary School in Bien Dong Commune.
