Ensuring all union members and workers enjoy Tet

Updated: 11:00, 31/12/2025

BAC NINH - With the theme “Warm Tet, grateful spring to the Party,” trade unions across the northern province of Bac Ninh are stepping up a wide range of practical and meaningful activities to care for union members and workers ahead of the Lunar New Year 2026. Priority is being given to financial support in order to share difficulties and provide encouragement for workers facing hardship.

Warmth and solidarity

At ASKEY Vietnam Technology Co., Ltd. in Que Vo Industrial Park, the company’s trade union, as in previous years, has drawn up an early plan to support workers during Tet holiday.

Leader of the provincial Federation of Labour presents Tet gifts to workers in difficult circumstances.

In addition to Tet gifts for 100% of its roughly 1,600 union members, each valued at 350,000–400,000 VND (about 17 USD), the grassroots union has set aside funding to present 21 special gift packages worth 1 million VND each to workers in difficult circumstances.

These include members from poor or near-poor households, families affected by illness, unexpected hardship or damage caused by storms and floods.

One such case is Loc Thi Hoa, born in 1989 and originally from the northern mountainous province of Cao Bang. During recent flooding, her family suffered heavy damage, with their house losing its roof and her parents-in-law and two children forced to stay temporarily with relatives.

With her husband lacking a stable job, the family’s financial burden rests largely on her shoulders. Savings she had set aside for Tet were sent back home to repair the house.

“Receiving the union’s gift of 1 million VND is not a large material value, but it helps us share our difficulties and provides strong moral encouragement to keep working hard,” Hoa said.

For many years, it has become a tradition for company leaders and the trade union of Luxshare-ICT Co., Ltd. in Van Trung Industrial Park to visit and present Tet gifts to disadvantaged workers.

This year, the union has compiled a list of 84 cases from within the province and several northern localities where workers are currently employed at the company.

Each gift package, funded by the trade union, is valued at 2.6 million VND, including 2 million dong in cash, a warm blanket and essential household items. Vi Thi Tom, from Khuon Trang village in Son Hai commune, said she was deeply moved to receive the Tet gift at her home.

“I don’t know what else to say except thank you. Every year I work here, especially during Tet, the company and the trade union always care for us and even come to our home to give gifts,” Tom said.

Mobilising resources to support workers

Caring for union members and workers during Tet has become a key focus of the “Warm Tet” programme launched by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour nearly a decade ago. Over time, it has become one of the most meaningful annual activities of the trade union system.

In preparation for the Lunar New Year 2026, the provincial Federation of Labour began planning as early as November. Under the plan, funding has been allocated to provide 10,000 cash gifts, each worth 1 million VND, to union members and workers facing hardship.

Grassroots unions at communes, wards and enterprises have been instructed to strengthen advocacy efforts and encourage leaders of agencies, units and businesses to allocate resources to support workers in difficult situations or those affected by occupational accidents.

The federation is also organising free bus trips to take workers home for Tet and bring them back after the holiday, with priority given to disadvantaged workers or those who have not returned home for Tet for many years.

Nguyen Khac Dieu, Deputy Head of the Industrial Park Trade Union Board under the provincial Federation of Labour, said that this year the unit has selected three to five labour-intensive enterprises to organise the “Trade Union Tet Market - Spring 2026.” The programme will include “Zero-VND stalls” as well as booths displaying and selling goods and services at discounted prices for workers.

The federation aims for 100% of grassroots unions to organise “Warm Tet” activities at their agencies and units, while enterprise unions are encouraged to allocate resources for a year-end “Trade Union Reunion Meal,” with a target value of 70,000 VND per meal.

Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc, Vice Chairwoman of the provincial Federation of Labour, said that alongside care activities, the federation is coordinating with the Department of Home Affairs to monitor and urge enterprises to pay salaries and Tet bonuses in line with plans publicly announced to workers.

Union officials have also been instructed to stay close to grassroots levels, promptly collect workers’ feedback and aspirations, and engage in dialogue with employers to prevent labour disputes, particularly work stoppages in the days leading up to Tet.
