Vietnamese player shines at int’l Xiangqi tournament
Overall, Xu Wenqiang won the championship, Nguyen Thanh Bao finished second, Hua Chenhao placed third, and Wang Jiarui ranked fourth.
The International Xiangqi Masters Tournament – 7th Phuong Trang Cup concluded on December 28 at FUTA Residence – Da Nang Times Square.

The final match between Nguyen Thanh Bao of Vietnam and Xu Wenqiang of China drew strong attention. Their standard game ended in a draw, forcing a rapid playoff.
In the decisive game, Xu demonstrated composure and precise play in the middle and endgame to claim victory and secure the Gold Cup, while Bao took the Silver Cup.
In the third-place playoff, Hua Chenhao of China defeated Wang Jiarui, also of China, by 1–0.
Overall, Xu Wenqiang won the championship, Nguyen Thanh Bao finished second, Hua Chenhao placed third, and Wang Jiarui ranked fourth.
The closing and awards ceremony wrapped up the tournament, which featured a total prize pool of 56,200 USD. The champion received 25,000 USD, the runner-up 11,000 USD, the third-place finisher 7,000 USD and the fourth-place player 3,000 USD, with prizes also awarded to lower-ranked competitors in accordance with the regulations.
Running from December 22 to 28, the seventh edition of the Phuong Trang Cup marked a significant step forward in both scale and professional quality, bringing together 30 domestic and international players.
The field included 11 international masters from strong xiangqi nations such as China, Malaysia and Singapore, alongside 19 leading Vietnamese players.
