International cooperation, “gateway” to modernize Bac Ninh’s health sector
BAC NINH- Acknowledging significance of international cooperation in modernizing medical system, Bac Ninh province has proactively implemented a number of cooperation programmes with foreign partners, organizations and medical facilities to approach advanced knowledge and technologies, aiming to develop a modern, effective and stable medical system.
One of the highlights of Bac Ninh’s medical sector is the close cooperation with partners from Sweden, a country of the world’s top ranking healthcare system.

In March 2025, the provincial leaders and AstraZeneca Vietnam agreed to implement the “Smart Healthcare Province-City” project, focusing on improving health education, prevention and management of non-communicable diseases such as lung cancer, asthma, diabetes and chronic kidney disease, contributing to enhancing disease prevention efficacy.
The assistance by Swedish partners and AstraZeneca has brought dramatic results. Particularly, artificial intelligence (AI) applications sponsored by AstraZeneca have been piloted in 4 public medical facilities to assist diagnostic imaging and pulmonary disease screening with tens of thousands of Xray films read by AI to help early detection and increase opportunities for timely treatment. AI applications will be expanded to 10 hospitals in the entire province in 2026.
The People’s Committee of Bac Ninh province planned to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Swedish Sophiahemmet University to establish a system for treatment quality registration and development of digital preventive healthcare models including remote health check, treatment and monitoring to gradually bring high-quality healthcare services closer to people.
In line with smart healthcare, collaboration in preventive medicine and intensive training is another highlight in medical international cooperation.
In the middle of January 2026, Bac Ninh Center for Disease Control (CDC) worked with a working delegation of Japan Public Health Association (JPHA) on prevention and control of viral hepatitis, opening a new phase of long-term cooperation.
According to the leader of Bac Ninh CDC, participation in the project is not only to gain technical support but more importantly it enables healthcare personnel to receive systematic training in accordance with international standards and approach advanced management measures, contributing to improving the effectiveness of disease prevention and control right from the grassroots level.
Bac Ninh’s health sector is maintaining effective academic cooperation with Japan Osaka Metropolitan. Both sides agreed to continue expansion of training cooperation in flexible formats, both online and in-person forms to better satisfy the people’s healthcare needs.

Bac Ninh medical sector is promising for positive transformation in medical cooperation when the contents in the MOU between the provincial People’s Committee and the Government of Korea’s Gyeongsangbuk province is carried out.
Particularly, the Korean counterpart is expected to transfer intensive technologies like organ transplantation, cardiac surgery and AI applications in medical examination, treatment, and diagnostic imaging and among others, gradually improving the quality of healthcare services for the people.
In evaluating significance of international cooperation, Director of the provincial Department of Health Dao Khac Hung stressed that the partners of the province’s health sector are institutions at the forefront of medical advancement.
Learning from the advanced healthcare systems not only helps medical practitioners enhance their technical expertise but also fosters innovation in management mindsets, particularly improving the efficiency of healthcare services.
