Vietnam's 20-millionth foreign tourist to arrive in Phu Quoc next week
Vietnam’s tourism industry is expected to welcome its 20 millionth international visitor of the year, who is set to arrive in Phu Quoc Island off the southern coast next week.
The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) announced that a ceremony will be held at Phu Quoc International Airport on Dec. 15 to welcome the special tourist.

This marks the first time in 65 years of development that Vietnam’s tourism industry has achieved the milestone of 20 million international visitors in a single year.
In addition to honoring the 20 millionth visitor, the tourism industry will also present certificates and gifts to visitors numbered 19,999,999 and 20,000,001 on the same day.
The country welcomed nearly 19.2 million international visitors in the first 11 months of this year, a 21% year-on-year increase and the highest figure ever recorded, according to the General Statistics Office.
In 2019, the year before the onset of the Covid, Vietnam received 18 million foreign visitors, the highest number on record at the time.
Last year it received 17.6 million visitors.
Phu Quoc has become a bright spot of Vietnam's tourism.
The island received nearly 7.6 million tourists including 1.6 million foreign arrivals in the first 11 months of this year, up 35% year-on-year and surpassing this year's target.
