Bac Ninh effectively operates inland ports to boost logistics development

Updated: 14:49, 29/12/2025

BAC NINH - Bac Ninh province occupies a strategic position along the economic corridor linking Hanoi with Hai Phong, Lang Son, Quang Ninh and Lao Cai. In recent years, a network of inland container depots or dry ports, has been planned, invested in and gradually put into operation, helping cut costs for businesses, improve competitiveness and support sustainable growth.

Under its logistics development strategy, the province identifies inland ports as a critical link in the modern supply chain. Although not located on the coast, Bac Ninh’s inland ports are directly connected to Hai Phong port and Cai Lan port in Quang Ninh via inland waterways and road networks.

Cargo is handled at Tan Cang Que Vo Inland Port.

In practice, the growing efficiency of these ports is reflected in steadily rising cargo volumes and revenues, making a positive contribution to the local logistics sector and economy.

Tan Cang Que Vo Inland Port in Phu Lang commune is a prime example. Covering nearly 10 hectares, the port has completed phases one and two of development and has been in operation since 2023, with three berths in service.

It is connected to National Highway 18 and benefits from both inland waterway and road transport links. The port aims to serve as a destination for import and export cargo from Bac Ninh, Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho and Hanoi, transshipping goods to seaports in the Hai Phong area.

It is also positioned as a logistics hub for Bac Ninh, providing transport, cargo handling, packaging, circulation, container repair and customs clearance services.

Nguyen Cong Binh, Director of Tan Cang Que Vo Inland Port, said the operator has expanded logistics services for more than 40 corporate customers and shipping lines via waterway and road systems.

In 2025, import-export cargo throughput is estimated at 2,799 TEU, with domestic cargo exceeding 86,600 TEU, generating revenue of more than 80 billion VND (3.5 million USD). The port targets revenue growth of 15% in 2026 compared with the previous year and plans further infrastructure upgrades to expand operations.

Similarly, Sowatco Tri Phuong Inland Port in Dai Dong commune, operated by Southern Waterborne Transport Corporation, has been in service since 2019 and is delivering solid results.

Located along the Duong River, the port focuses on container transport by inland waterway. Its main customers include large foreign-invested corporations such as Toyota, Nitori, JA Solar, Canon and Foxconn.

According to port representatives, throughput reached 57,000 TEU in 2025, nearly double the previous year, helping form an integrated logistics service chain aligned with industrial development.

The provincial Department of Construction said Bac Ninh currently has 11 inland ports operating stably and efficiently, including Tri Yen Inland Port in Tan An ward, Dabaco Tan Chi Inland Port in Tan Chi commune, Duc Long Inland Port in Phu Lang commune and Dap Cau Inland Port in Vu Ninh ward.

Bac Ninh has so far planned 12 inland ports in communes and wards including Kep, Hiep Hoa, Yen Dung, Nenh, Bac Lung, Yen Phong, Vo Cuong, Que Vo, Phu Lang, Tu Son, Tan Chi and Gia Binh, with individual port sizes ranging from 16 to 100 hectares.

Located along the Duong, Cau and Thuong rivers, these ports focus on container and bulk cargo transport by inland waterways, linking with northern seaports and handling hundreds of thousands of tonnes of cargo each year.

Total revenue generated by inland ports across the province in 2025 is estimated at more than 700 billion VND, contributing to economic restructuring toward modern services and industry, forming a key domestic logistics network and easing pressure on traditional seaports.

Their connections with national highways, expressways and inland waterways offer competitive advantages in time and cost for import-export activities.

Bac Ninh has so far planned 12 inland ports in communes and wards including Kep, Hiep Hoa, Yen Dung, Nenh, Bac Lung, Yen Phong, Vo Cuong, Que Vo, Phu Lang, Tu Son, Tan Chi and Gia Binh, with individual port sizes ranging from 16 to 100 hectares.
