Bac Ninh firms step up efforts to retain workers

Updated: 14:15, 11/02/2026

BAC NINH - As the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026 approaches, companies in northern Bac Ninh province are rolling out bonuses, welfare packages and transport support in a bid to retain workers and stabilise production after the holiday, even as many continue to grapple with business headwinds.

Alongside investments in new manufacturing technologies, businesses have focused on improving year-end benefits, viewing Tet care policies as key to preventing post-holiday labour shortages and ensuring orders are fulfilled from the first days of the new year.

Vietnam Diamond & Zebra Electric Co., Ltd. (Dai Dong–Hoan Son Industrial Park) organises a traditional rural fair, drawing large numbers of workers to take part.

Vietnam Diamond & Zebra Electric Co., Ltd., a transformer manufacturer based in Dai Dong–Hoan Son Industrial Park, said it has maintained stable wages and benefits for its 550 employees despite challenges in 2025. Average monthly income stands at more than 9.5 million VND per worker.

In addition to regular salaries, the company provides monthly performance bonuses and has stepped up workplace safety checks and environmental standards at its factory.

Cultural and sports activities, periodic health checks and reproductive health consultations for female workers are also organised, it said.

For Tet 2026, the company will pay a 13th-month salary bonus, allow salary advances before the holiday, distribute Tet gifts to all employees and provide 27 additional gift packages to workers facing special hardship. It is also arranging transport to take workers back to their hometowns for the holiday.

“Workers are the core factor behind sustainable development,” said Nguyen Thi Sam, Chairwoman of the company’s trade union, adding that welfare policies help employees feel secure and reduce staff turnover after Tet, thereby stabilising production capacity.

Similar moves are under way across the province’s industrial parks and clusters.

Thuan Thanh International Fashion JSC, located in Xuan Lam Industrial Cluster, said it has earmarked 3.8 billion VND in Tet bonuses for more than 250 employees.

Each worker will receive a 13th-month salary equivalent, along with gifts worth 400,000 VND and a winter jacket valued at 1.6 million VND. The company is also offering travel allowances for workers returning home, visiting disadvantaged staff and giving lucky money at the start of the new year.

Beyond welfare policies, the garment firm has secured production contracts for the whole of 2026 to ensure stable employment. It has invested tens of billions of dong in automated sewing and fabric-cutting machines to boost productivity and reduce reliance on manual labour, helping limit technical errors and improve efficiency.

At Thuan Phat Technology Packaging JSC in Ninh Xa ward, management has introduced flexible holiday arrangements, allowing out-of-town workers to start their leave earlier and return a day later than scheduled. The company has also hired buses to transport workers home safely for Tet.

Bac Ninh is home to more than 26,000 active enterprises employing around 820,000 workers. According to the provincial Department of Home Affairs, most companies have announced Tet bonus plans.

The highest bonuses, largely in foreign-invested firms, have reached several hundred million VND per person, while the most common average remains below 10 million VND. Many businesses also provide a 13th-month salary or other forms of support to safeguard employee benefits.

Workers at Thuan Thanh International Fashion JSC (Xuan Lam Industrial Cluster, Song Lieu Ward) focus on completing orders before leaving for the Lunar New Year holiday.

For workers, the additional support offers reassurance amid economic uncertainty.

“Although the economy is still difficult, this year’s bonus is higher than last year,” said Hoang Thi Thao, a worker at Vietnam Diamond & Zebra Electric. “That makes us very happy and more confident about staying with the company and completing orders before the holiday.”

Provincial officials say coordinated efforts by businesses to invest in technology while maintaining stable jobs, wages and welfare demonstrate both social responsibility and a pragmatic strategy for sustainable growth.

With firms and workers aligned, Bac Ninh’s manufacturing sector is aiming to meet its economic targets from the outset of 2026, avoiding the labour disruptions that have often followed the country’s most important holiday.
