The provincial Party Chief and the delegation conducted field inspections at the high-tech municipal solid waste treatment and energy generation plant in Phu Lang commune; the centralised municipal solid waste treatment and power generation plant in Trung Kenh commune; and the high-tech solid waste treatment and energy generation plant in Song Lieu ward.

During the inspections, businesses proposed that the province soon issue official service prices for municipal solid waste treatment applicable to waste-to-energy plants; designate a single focal agency to sign municipal solid waste treatment contracts; and allocate land for the treatment and recycling of fly ash.

Several businesses also called on localities and relevant agencies to step up the collection and transportation of waste from transfer stations to the plants in accordance with scheduled timelines.

Thai acknowledged and praised businesses for their active involvement in municipal waste treatment, contributing to environmental protection in the province.

He affirmed that the province would work alongside businesses to address difficulties and obstacles and facilitate their effective operations.

In response to the businesses’ proposals, he assigned the provincial Department of Construction to study and identify a suitable site for land allocation to serve the treatment and recycling of fly ash generated by the plant in Phu Lang commune.

Regarding the proposed expansion of the plant in Trung Kenh commune, he asked the business to submit a written proposal to the provincial People’s Committee so that relevant agencies could review it and make recommendations.

On the approval of waste treatment service prices, the provincial leader asked the Department of Finance to coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Environment and businesses to formulate the prices and, on that basis, provide guidance to communes and wards.

He also called for the signing of contracts with businesses to be expedited and completed within September.

Pending the operation of waste treatment plants in the former Bac Giang area, Thai asked businesses to continue supporting the treatment of municipal solid waste for communes and wards.

He stressed that waste treatment must be geared toward creating a green, clean and safe environment that benefits local residents. He also expressed his hope that modern and advanced technologies would be introduced into environmental treatment in Bac Ninh.

The Secrectary further urged provincial agencies to take businesses’ feedback into consideration as a basis for objective evaluation during the implementation of environmental treatment tasks.

Any difficulties or obstacles arising during implementation should be promptly discussed and reported to the competent provincial authorities for timely resolution, he said.

Hanoi inaugurates 90 MW waste-to-energy plant

With a capacity to process 5,000 tonnes of waste per day and generate 90 MW of electricity, the facility has been connected to the national grid since July 2022. It is considered a long-term solution to Hanoi’s waste management challenge.
