Bac Ninh's breakthrough policies lift excellence in education
BAC NINH - One year after the merger of Bac Ninh and Bac Giang provinces, education in Bac Ninh has emerged as a source of pride, driven by a series of breakthrough policies and outstanding achievements in national, regional and international academic competitions. These developments are laying the foundation for the province to maintain its reputation as one of Vietnam’s leading centers of education in a new phase of development.
With strong support from provincial authorities, the education sector in August 2025 conducted a comprehensive review of policies previously applied in the two provinces before the merger.

The review helped formulate immediate solutions for the 2025–2026 academic year as well as longer-term strategies.
One of the first major measures was Resolution No. 31, adopted by the provincial People’s Council on August 11, 2025, introducing a school milk support programme for preschool and primary school children for the 2025–2030 period.
The programme has been rolled out at more than 800 preschools, primary schools and integrated schools, benefiting over 800,000 children and students.
Another significant policy was Resolution No. 98, approved on December 10, 2025, which established support mechanisms for specialized schools, key schools and gifted-student training programmes across the province.
The initiative is expected to receive around 300 billion VND (11.4 million USD) annually from the state budget, benefiting tens of thousands of students.
Most recently, on April 28, 2026, the provincial People’s Committee approved a project aimed at improving the quality of specialized and key schools during 2026–2030, with a vision to 2035.
The project seeks to transform these institutions into model secondary schools that can identify, nurture and develop young talent.
Provincial authorities have also instructed the education sector to propose amendments to Resolution No. 98 for implementation from the 2026–2027 academic year.
According to Bach Dang Khoa, Deputy Director of the Bac Ninh Department of Education and Training, strong provincial support enabled the sector to successfully organize the selection of teams for the 2025–2026 national high school student competition.
The province provided intensive training for 240 students despite logistical challenges, as participants frequently traveled nearly 50 kilometers between Bac Giang High School for the Gifted and Bac Ninh.
Overcoming these difficulties, Bac Ninh’s 12 teams, comprising 237 contestants, won 174 national prizes, including 10 first prizes, ranking sixth nationwide.
Fifteen students advanced to the second round of selection for Vietnam’s national teams competing in regional and international Olympiads.
Bac Ninh also celebrated notable international achievements. One student won a silver medal at the Asian Physics Olympiad, while two students competed at the European Physics Olympiad.

Three students have been selected to represent Vietnam at the 2026 International Biology and Physics Olympiads.
To ensure the best candidates are chosen for major competitions, the education sector has prioritized reforms in examinations and admissions.
These include provincial-level contests for outstanding students and teachers, as well as entrance examinations for Grade 10 and selective lower-secondary schools for the 2026–2027 academic year.
Officials say the reforms are essential to promoting teaching and learning excellence and improving overall education quality.
Although the 2025–2026 academic year has ended, the full picture of educational quality will become clearer when the Ministry of Education and Training releases the 2026 national high school graduation examination results in early July.
For Bac Ninh, attention is also focused on three young talents preparing to compete at international Olympiads in July 2026. Than Duc Chinh and Phung Quang Hung, both from Bac Giang High School for the Gifted, will compete in Biology, while Ta Ngoc Minh from Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted will compete in Physics.
