Bac Ninh’s trade sector transforms toward modernity

Updated: 15:13, 19/08/2026

BAC NINH - The rapid modernisation and professionalisation of Bac Ninh’s trade sector is giving the local market for goods and services a new look.

From supermarkets and shopping malls to traditional markets and e-commerce, greater emphasis is being placed on product quality, traceability, price transparency, digital payments, and customer service, helping improve quality of life and enhance the province’s appeal.

Residents make cashless payments at Lotte Mart Bac Giang.

In recent days, Lotte Mart Bac Giang has become a popular destination for residents of Bac Giang ward and neighbouring areas. Thousands of people visit the shopping centre each day to shop, dine, relax, and enjoy the experience of a modern commercial environment.

Built on an area of approximately 6,900 square metres, Lotte Mart Bac Giang comprises two floors and combines shopping, dining, and entertainment.

Goods are systematically organised, with a focus on fresh food, high-quality products, and reputable brands. The dining and entertainment areas are also diverse, catering to the needs of different customer groups.

At the opening ceremony on July 30, 2026, Shin JuBack, CEO of Lotte Mart Vietnam, said that Lotte Mart Bac Giang demonstrates the company’s long-term investment commitment to the locality.

It also aims to enhance the shopping experience, expand cooperation with Vietnamese businesses and suppliers, create more jobs, and contribute to building a modern and sustainable retail ecosystem.

Earlier, in late 2025, WinMart Bac Ninh in Kinh Bac ward launched a new supermarket model featuring specialised sections ranging from fresh food and bakery products to premium foods and beauty-care products.

These changes show that the retail market is shifting from simply meeting shopping needs toward creating better customer experiences and improving service quality.

Alongside modern retail chains, Bac Giang ward and many other localities in the province are seeing a growing number of restaurants, cafés, beauty salons, car-care services, and others.

Examples include Vien Café, Ban Vi Restaurant, and the Jollibee chain, all in Bac Giang ward.

These establishments have invested systematically in their premises and are paying greater attention to service quality, food safety and hygiene, public security, and fire prevention and safety, gradually establishing a more civilised business culture.

From the perspective of a foreigner living and working in Bac Ninh, Yosuke Kubota, an employee of Alpha Taiho Co., Ltd. in Bac Giang ward, said he regularly uses shopping, dining, and tourism services across the province.

What impresses him is that the supermarket and service systems in Bac Ninh are becoming increasingly modern and are comparable to many shopping environments in Japan.

According to the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, in 2025 the province had 234 operating traditional markets, including two Grade-1, 24 Grade-2, and 208 Grade-3 markets, providing jobs for more than 25,000 workers.

Alongside upgrades to traditional markets, to gradually create a safer and more convenient business environment, the province has added four shopping malls, 35 supermarkets, 136 WinMart stores, around 30 electronics stores, and more than 500 convenience stores.

The modern retail network has also expanded into mountainous areas such as Luc Nam, Chu, Yen The, and Son Dong.

Shopping malls, supermarkets, and convenience stores have been invested in primarily by major retailers such as Vincom, GO! (Central Retail), WinMart, and Dabaco.

Goods sold at supermarkets, shopping malls, and convenience stores are subject to controls on product origin and price labeling, while cashless payments and product coding are increasingly common.

Many businesses have also adopted inventory management software, conducted regular stock checks, and applied the first-in, first-out (FIFO) principle to products with expiration dates. These practices are key to building consumer confidence.

The trade and services sector still has considerable room for growth, driven by the province’s rapid industrial development.

Hundreds of thousands of local workers and those from other provinces live and work in Bac Ninh, including more than 22,600 foreign workers in industrial parks.

Their demand for dining, shopping, accommodation, entertainment, and other services is becoming increasingly diverse.
