Bac Ninh starts construction on An Khanh – Bac Giang Thermal Power Plant
BAC NINH - An Khanh Bac Giang Thermal Power Joint Stock Company recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for the An Khanh - Bac Giang Thermal Power Plant project in Vu Xa village, Cam Ly commune.
The ceremony on August 12 was attended by Nguyen Hong Thai, member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the provincial Party Committee; Truong Thanh Hoai, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade; Nguyen Ngoc Canh, Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam; and representatives of the Electricity Authority under the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Vietnam Electricity (EVN).

The project has a total installed capacity of 650 MW, total investment of nearly 30 trillion VND (1.15 billion USD), and a land area of more than 66.4 hectares.
Under the latest revised schedule, it is expected to be completed and begin commercial power generation in June 2029.

The groundbreaking marks an important transition for the project from the investment preparation stage to actual construction.
Once operational, the plant is expected to supply an average of approximately 3.9 billion kWh of electricity annually to the northern power system and the national grid, helping meet growing electricity demand and enhance power supply capacity.

Representing the EPC contractor, Duong Van Them, General Director of Bach Dang Construction Corporation, affirmed the contractor’s determination to work closely with the project investor and relevant parties, mobilising resources, personnel and equipment to carry out construction in a coordinated manner while ensuring the project’s schedule, quality and safety.
Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Pham Van Thinh acknowledged and commended the efforts of the project investor, EPC contractor and relevant agencies and organisations in preparing and completing the necessary conditions for the project to proceed.
He affirmed that once operational, the An Khanh - Bac Giang Thermal Power Plant would help strengthen energy security while providing additional momentum for socio-economic development.
He requested that the project developer focus resources on substantive implementation of the project, ensuring that it remains on schedule, meets quality and safety requirements, and fully complies with the law.
Particular attention should be paid to safety control in design, construction, installation and operation, while strictly implementing environmental protection requirements, he said.
The project investor should also study and apply advanced technologies, management practices and operational solutions to ensure that power supply requirements are met alongside environmental and safety standards, he added.

The provincial leader also urged the investor to prioritise the employment of local workers, provide technical training, create jobs and develop supporting services in the project area; and coordinate with local authorities to maintain public security and order, traffic safety and residents’ livelihoods throughout the construction and operational phases.
The provincial People’s Committee, departments, agencies and local authorities will continue to coordinate closely with the project developer, focusing on resolving matters within their respective jurisdictions and ensuring that administrative and procedural difficulties do not affect the project’s progress, he affirmed.
