Bac Ninh steps up inter-regional transport infrastructure investment

Updated: 15:57, 18/10/2026

BAC NINH - Bac Ninh is accelerating investment in major transport projects to strengthen inter-provincial and regional connectivity, expand development space and facilitate goods movement and travel, identifying transport infrastructure as a key driver of socio-economic growth.

Prioritising connectivity projects

Construction is progressing on Kenh Vang Bridge and its approach roads following the connection of the main span across the Thai Binh River. Contractors have mobilised workers and equipment across three construction fronts to complete the remaining bridge and road sections.

Contractors mobilise machinery and workers to build Kenh Vang Bridge, which will connect Bac Ninh with Hai Phong.

The nearly 13.4-km project has a total investment of more than 2.182 trillion VND (84.3 million USD) and is scheduled for completion in 2027.

According to Bac Ninh City’s No. 2 Transport and Agriculture Project Management Board, the investor, the contract package covering the bridge and the first road section has reached more than 68% completion by contract value, while the remaining road section has reached 27%.

The investor is working with relevant agencies to resolve land clearance and construction material supply issues, enabling contractors to accelerate work on the approach roads.

Once completed, the project will establish an additional trade route between Bac Ninh and Hai Phong, supporting freight transport and strengthening links between industrial parks and production areas.

Van Ha Bridge is also taking shape, connecting Van Ha Ward with Kinh Bac Ward across the Cau River. The project has an investment of nearly 420 billion VND and is being implemented during 2025-2027.

As of early October 2026, construction had reached about 40%. Contractors had largely completed bored piles, abutments and several bridge piers. Once operational, the bridge is expected to improve travel and freight transport while strengthening links between residential communities and production areas on both sides of the river.

Meanwhile, the Hanoi Capital Region Ring Road 4 project is gradually forming a strategic transport corridor linking Bac Ninh with Hanoi, Hung Yen and the national transport network. The route stretches more than 112 km, including approximately 33 km through Bac Ninh.

Construction teams are working on the roadbed and drainage systems, but material shortages, rising fuel prices, land clearance difficulties and the relocation of technical infrastructure have affected progress.

The investor is coordinating with local authorities and relevant agencies to address these obstacles, aiming to achieve technical opening before December 31, 2026, and complete the project in May 2027. Once operational, the road is expected to ease pressure on existing routes and improve freight connections between Bac Ninh and neighbouring economic centres.

Developing an integrated transport network

Construction is being accelerated on Van Ha Bridge.

The resolution adopted at the first Bac Ninh Municipal Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term identifies the comprehensive development of socio-economic infrastructure, particularly multimodal transport, as a priority for breakthrough growth.

Dinh Phan Dai, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Construction, said transport planning was designed to ensure coordination between roads and connectivity with regional and national networks.

The city is prioritising routes that expand development space, link industrial parks with urban areas and growth centres, and improve local transport infrastructure for residents.

Preliminary statistics show that Bac Ninh has allocated 3 trillion to 4 trillion VND annually to transport investment in recent years. Communes and wards have also earmarked tens of billions of VND each year to upgrade and renovate local roads.

Resolution No. 15/2026/NQ-HDND, which sets out support policies for constructing and upgrading commune, street, village and alley roads during 2026-2030, has provided additional resources for local infrastructure development.

The city plans to pave, renovate and upgrade about 4,184 km of roads, requiring total funding of more than 12.6 trillion VND. The municipal budget is expected to contribute around 8.88 trillion VND, with the remainder coming from commune-level budgets, social contributions and other lawful sources. Support levels vary according to local conditions.

Residents in areas including Tan Yen, Lang Giang, Son Dong and Phuong Son have actively supported implementation, helping address land clearance difficulties and speed up construction.

The city has also strengthened project management by requiring departments and local authorities to coordinate more closely with investors on site clearance, resolve emerging problems and regularly review construction progress. Investors and contractors have been urged to mobilise sufficient workers and machinery while maintaining construction quality.

With investment focused on strategic links, Bac Ninh aims to connect industrial parks, urban centres and production areas more effectively with regional transport networks, improving logistics, attracting investment and supporting sustainable socio-economic development.
