Banh Chung festival – united Lunar New Year

(BGO) – On the morning of January 24, the third Banh Chung Festival (the traditional dish made of glutinous rice and pork) was launched by the district Fatherland Front’s Committee and relevant agencies at the Monument Center of Thang Town, Hiep Hoa district, Bac Giang province, luring numerous participation of officers and locals.

The event was competed by 11 teams from the two communes of Hoang Van and Hoang An. Each team comprised of three members, two of whom directly involved in the festival. The participants vied for prizes in two parts, namely “skillful” and “pretty and delicious Banh Chung”.

In the 10 minutes long “pretty and delicious Banh Chung”, the competitors cut a Banh Chung into 12 slices and placed them on a dish. The judges evaluated under such criteria as the smoothness, toughness, color of each slice. While the “Skillful” round requested each team to make 5 pieces of Banh Chung in less than 30 minutes. The criteria of even round Banh Chung, the square angle of the leaves, steadily tighten wire among others were judged.

The gifts are presented to the poor households in the Festival.

In the end, the organization board awarded one first prize to the best team of Van Thach hamlet in Hoang Van commune while presenting two second, three third and five consolation prizes to the others.

Also, the organization board took the occasion to present 234 gift packages to the poor households with special circumstances in the locality, including 300,000 VND (13.21 USD), clothes and rice (each totally worth 700,000 VND (30.8 USD)), mobilized from the district fund for the poor and the donation from local kind-hearted people.

At the same time, the district People’s Committee received the protection certificate for the Hiep Hoa pomelo trademark in Bac Giang province granted by the National Office for Property Right (Ministry of Science and Technology).

Many customers prefer with the safe vegetable booth.

According to a competent report, the district is home to nearly 340 hectares of pomelo cultivation, mostly in the communes of Luong Phong, Doan Bai, Hung Son, Ngoc Son and Danh Thanh. Each hectare brings an average income of 380 – 500 million VND (16,700 – 22,000 USD).

In the festival, many typical agricultural products were showcased and sold to the customers.
