Germany helps provide training in renewable energy integration

Updated: 13:10, 08/12/2020
An e-learning platform has been launched by the Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam, Ministry of Industry and Trade and the German Development Cooperation Agency GIZ.

The launch was part of a three-day series of events related to the Smart Grids for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SGREEE) project in Da Nang, which also included Future Lab and Vietnam Academy Day.

SGREEE is implemented by the authority and GIZ, and commissioned by the German government.

Representatives of ERAV (left) and GIZ launched the e-learning platform.

After the e-training, GIZ will offer more specialized courses in early 2021.

"As Vietnam integrates an increasing amount of renewable energy projects into the grid, a number of obstacles need to be addressed, including the improvement of local capacity," Till Barmeier, SGREEE’s technical advisor, said.

"Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we decided to offer the e-learning course, which allows us to reach more participants and have the training more individually tailored.

When the trainees apply the knowledge in their jobs, they can contribute to the stable operation of the country's grid."

With a tailor-made syllabus for Vietnam, the virtual training will equip local experts with comprehensive knowledge of the challenges faced by the country's power system when integrating a large number of renewable energy plants into the grid, potential mitigation strategies and international best practices.

The instructors are leading experts from Germany and the U.K., while the participants will be nominated by their institutions in the energy sector.

The learning materials are organized as learning paths, courses and modules designed to match each learner's existing knowledge. The training consists of animated presentations with detailed audio explanations complemented by a test for every module.

The whole training can be completed within two days, but participants can study at their own pace, and will receive a certificate for passing.
