Updated: 17:36, 26/06/2026

Meritorious Artist To Nga has achieved a new milestone in her career by becoming the only Vietnamese individual to be honoured with a gold cup at the April Spring Friendship Art Festival, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK)’s prestigious annual international arts festival.

The award is a rare international distinction for a Vietnamese artist.

Ambassador Ri Sung Guk presents the gold cup and certificate of merit to Meritorious Artist To Nga.

In addition to the individual accolade, the Viet Nam National Music, Song and Dance Theatre was honoured with a prestigious gold cup awarded by the organisers of the April Spring Friendship Art Festival for its artistic programme, “Spring from the source”.

At the award ceremony, solemnly held in Ha Noi, Ri Sung Guk, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the DPRK to Viet Nam, personally presented the gold cup to the theatre and extended his congratulations to its leadership, artists, and performers for their outstanding contributions to this year’s festival.

Attendees included Nguyen Phuong Hoa, Director General of the Department of International Cooperation, and People’s Artist Nguyen Xuan Bac, Director General of the Performing Arts Department under the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.

Both officials congratulated the theatre on its remarkable achievement at a prestigious international arts event and expressed their appreciation to the festival organisers for providing Vietnamese artists with an opportunity to learn from international peers and promote the distinctive cultural and artistic values of Viet Nam.

The April Spring Friendship Art Festival is a renowned annual international arts event held in the DPRK, from April 1 to 30. This year’s edition brought together artists and performing troupes from 20 countries, featuring 50 artistic programmes.

Viet Nam was represented by two programmes: one by the Viet Nam National Music, Song and Dance Theatre and another by the Viet Nam Circus Federation.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Ri Sung Guk highly praised the participation of the Viet Nam National Music, Song and Dance Theatre in the festival.

He noted that “Spring from the Source” conveyed profound political messages, demonstrated a high artistic standard, and vividly reflected the friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
