Updated: 17:09, 05/12/2024

BAC GIANG - Bac Giang city is in a race against time to complete key infrastructure projects ahead of the 2025 Lunar New Year (Tet). On the construction sites of various urban development projects spanning transportation, public utilities, and urban beautification, contractors and workers are hustling to meet tight deadlines.

At the construction site of Sub-project 1 in the 11-12 Southern Bac Giang Urban Area project in Tan Tien commune, groups of workers are diligently working on finalizing water supply systems, road paving, and tree planting.

The Bac Giang city Project Management Board’s officials inspect the progress of Sub-project 1 under the Southern Bac Giang Urban Area project

The project, which broke ground in June 2024, spans 9.74 hectares and includes key components such as land leveling, construction of roads, drainage and electricity systems, and technical infrastructure, and creating green spaces.

With a total investment of over 59.6 billion VND (2.35 million USD), the project is set to be completed by December 31, 2024 - one month ahead of schedule.

Pham Van Bang, a technical officer, emphasized that thanks to the early handover of land by the project’s investor, work has proceeded smoothly.

As of now, 90% of the work is complete, and the project is expected to be finished before the year-end, which will allow it to be auctioned off to generate funds for the city’s budget and further infrastructure development.

In 2024, the Bac Giang city Project Management Board is in charge of 103 public investment projects. Considering them key projects for the city’s development, from the outset of the year, the board has worked closely with relevant departments and local authorities to remove challenges and accelerate the land clearance process to ensure contractors can start work on time.

To keep projects on track, the board has organized teams of 2-4 staff members to oversee the construction progress and quality, with regular inspections. It has required contractors to deploy adequate manpower and equipment to ensure progress.

As of now, 49 projects have been completed and are in the process of finalizing payment settlements, while 54 are still under construction. The city expects to have disbursed 85% of the allocated capital by the end of 2024.

The completion of these key projects will significantly contribute to the improvement of the city’s infrastructure, urban facilities, and transportation network, thus enhancing connectivity between different areas of Bac Giang and promoting local socio-economic development.

As Tet 2025 approaches, Bac Giang city is also focusing on urban beautification projects. Learning from previous years, the board began preparations for these projects in April 2024, ensuring they were kicked off earlier than usual.

Special emphasis has been placed on completing key projects that will enhance the city’s aesthetic appeal, such as the expansion of the green space along the Hanoi-Bac Giang Expressway and the building of parks in residential areas.

One of the major projects, a 5.5-hectare park and lake area along Xuong Giang Road near Bac Giang bus station, is nearly complete.

Giap Quang Chinh, Director of the board, noted that the board has directed relevant units to launch a high-intensity campaign to ensure that all urban renovation works meet both their deadlines and quality standards, creating a fresh and welcoming environment for the public during the holiday season.

In addition to the major projects, the local government is urging each ward and commune to select at least one site or project that can serve as a notable landmark of the city.

There is also a concerted push to encourage residents to make streets bright, green, clean, and beautiful, in preparation for the new year.
