Bac Giang levels up agricultural products thanks to traceability

Updated: 17:10, 05/12/2024

BAC GIANG - Traceability of agricultural products is an activity related to tracking, identifying and tracing product information in each stage of the production, processing and distribution. This is one of the important contents of digital transformation in the agricultural sector. Recognizing its importance, Bac Giang province has a Project to deploy, apply and manage the traceability system for the period 2021-2025.

When the consumers increasingly demand information transparency for products and goods, especially agricultural products, traceability through barcode and QRcode is considered a solution to help them feel secure in using and prevent the commercial fraud.

Products of Trai Lam Thuan Huong Traditional Noodle Production and Trading Cooperative (Luc Ngan) use the traceability system via QR code.

The Hoa Phu AFC Clean Agriculture Cooperative in Bao An village, Hoang An commune (Hiep Hoa) was established in 2020. It now has 7 households linked to production in line with VietGAP standards.

Each year, the Cooperative brings about 1,800 tonnes of commercial ducks and chickens to wholesale markets, processing facilities, restaurants, hotels and industrial parks inside and outside the province.

In order to build a brand as well as create a foothold in the market, the Cooperative has focused on implementing the product traceability process on product packaging through attaching QR codes for years.

Consumers can scan the code to check the farming process until the product is distributed to the market together with the certificates of safe production. This is also a way for the Cooperative to protect its products and gain the trust of customers.

Similarly, Yen The “Green” Agricultural Cooperative is one of the pioneers in attaching the traceability stamp to Yen The hill chicken products.

According to Giap Quy Cuong, Director of the Cooperative, implementing the traceability process has contributed to building the position of the Cooperative. Various products such as ham, sausage, chicken sausage, salt and pepper chicken, dried chicken with lemon leaves are all available on the shelves of supermarkets, convenience stores and restaurants in many provinces and cities...

The above results were gained thanks to continuous efforts of the Cooperative in designing logos, packaging, registering barcodes, QR codes, printing labels, packaging products according to standards, helping consumers easily trace the products, view information on instructions for use, preservation, nutritional content... of the product.

In addition to livestock products, many owners of products in the fields of cultivation, processing and products under One Commune One Product programme (OCOP) have paid due attention to traceability process.

In addition to the Department of Science and Technology, which is operating and managing the Origin Tracing Information Portal for a number of key products of the province (the Provincial Origin Tracing Portal), the People's Committee of Hiep Hoa district is operating the District's Product and Goods Tracing Information Portal and providing free support to organizations and individuals for origin tracing for typical agricultural products.

Products of Yen Dung Clean Vegetable Cooperative use the traceability system via QRcode.

Many products are supported for origin tracing here such as: Thai Son commune's yellow sticky rice, Hiep Hoa peanuts, Hoang An rice noodles, Hoang Van black canarium...

In addition, the Provincial Cooperative Alliance has deployed software to manage production and business activities of cooperatives to support quality verification and post-checking when promoting online product consumption.

To ensure publicity and transparency of agricultural product traceability information, Bac Giang province has implemented a project to deploy, apply and manage the traceability system in the province during 2021-2025.

The goal is to have at least 30% of enterprises, cooperatives, production and service establishments using codes and barcodes with a traceability system applying national and international standards; 100% of export products and goods (key, typical, potential and OCOP groups) applying the traceability system.
