To meet local power needs, especially for industrial development, state utility Vietnam Electricity (EVN) is working with the locality to implement many key power projects, including 220 kV substations and transmission lines.

It is estimated that by 2025, commercial electricity in the province will reach more than 8.9 billion kWh, with capacity demand of 1,650MW. The respective figures by 2030 will be 16.7 billion kWh and 2,900MW. Currently, large electricity loads are seen in industrial parks and Bac Giang city, Viet Yen, Yen Dung, Tan Yen and Lang Giang districts, which are receiving electricity mainly from the Bac Giang and Quang Chau 220kV substations.

The above substations carry about 80-85% loads and are supported by Bac Ninh, Hiep Hoa and Pha Lai 220kV substations. With the electricity demand registered by many investors operating in Bac Giang, the power supply in the coming years will face difficulties.

Therefore, Bac Giang is focusing on accelerating related tasks to implement the projects. The Yen Dung 220kV substation and transmission line are being built to supply electricity for Bac Giang province in general and industrial parks in Yen Dung district in particular (especially Yen Lu Industrial Park), thus increasing regional power grid stability and reducing power capacity and output losses in the system.

The 220 kV substation is expected to be located in Dong Cham land, Tu Mai commune, Yen Dung district.

Currently, the Department of Planning and Investment is coordinating with the Department of Industry and Trade and units of the electricity sector to develop implementation plans to submit to the Ministry of Planning and Investment for appraisal, and then to the Prime Minister for approval. It is supporting the investor to carry out procedures for investment policy and investor approval for power grid projects in line with the Investment Law.

Relevant departments, agencies and People's Committees of districts are implementing agreements on the direction of the transmission line and the location of the substation, and site clearance and compensation to ensure land funds for the projects. 

The provincial authorities have directed the provincial Industrial Parks Management Board and related agencies to provide information on the development of industrial parks, industrial clusters, service urban areas and high-tech parks so that the power industry can develop appropriate power supply projects and scenarios for each stage and proactively devise investment plans.
