Bac Giang removes obstacles for development of rooftop solar power
According to Bac Giang Power Company (BGPC), BGPC signs a contract to buy and sell rooftop solar power from more than 600 customers with a total installed capacity of 15.97 MWp. The average electricity output that was generated by this sources and integrated to the grid reached about 748,000 kWh/month with a pre-tax amount of about 1.5 billion VND (over 63,900 USD) in 2022 and about 460,000 kWh with a pre-tax amount of about 0.9 billion VND in the first 4 months of 2023.

The solar power helps family of Nguyen Thi Sang save much living cost. |
The installation of rooftop solar power has helped people and businesses save electricity and reduce costs. The family of Nguyen Thi Sang in Le village, Xuan Huong commune (Lang Giang district) invested in installing rooftop solar power in 2020. Apart from the power for family use, she can earn about 400,00 – 500,000 VND per month by selling the redundant volume to the electricity sector.
Along with some households, many businesses have reduced input costs thanks to solar power. Typically, Crystal Martin Vietnam Company Limited in Quang Chau Industrial Park invested in two rooftop solar power systems which help the company save about 1.2 million kWh per year (equivalent to billions of VND).
Besides, Bac Giang LGG Garment Corporation Joint Stock Company in Nghia Hoa commune (Lang Giang district) also invested more than 12 billion VND to install solar power systems. After operating them, the power supply is guaranteed and meets the production demand for six factories, helping save from 3 to 5 billion VND of electricity costs every year.
According to Dao Xuan Cuong, Head of Management Board of provincial Industrial Parks, many enterprises in industrial parks want to invest in developing rooftop solar power such as: New Wing Interconnect Technology Co., Ltd (Bac Giang); Vietnam Electronic Materials Co., Ltd; JA Solar Vietnam Co., Ltd; Luxshare ICT Co., Ltd (Vietnam); Fuyu Precision Technology Co., Ltd; Fuhong Precision Components Co., Ltd (Bac Giang); Vina Cell Technology Co., Ltd and Vina Solar Technology Co., Ltd among others.
At the same time, the locality will propose the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade to soon issue regulations and guidelines about investment, installation and connection to the national power system in order to efficiently exploit green energy sources, contribute to reduce the greenhouse effect and business’s costs during operation.

A business in Van Trung industrial park installs rooftop solar power system. |
According to the Department of Industry and Trade, Bac Giang province has potential to exploit rooftop solar power at buildings, state administrative offices, hospitals, schools, industrial parks and clusters with technical potential of about 2,320 MW. Moreover, the province completed making Provincial Planning in 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, including the development of 72 more industrial clusters, 33 industrial parks with a total area of 12,855 hectares while the total area of industrial parks and clusters will reach 8,959 hectares by 2030.
Accordingly, the provincial demand for electricity supply by 2030 will be about 4,500 MVA. In order to meet the increasing demand for electricity in 2021-2030 period, especially for industrial production, the addition of power generation sources is essential.
Particularly, the province prioritizes to the develop power sources by using renewable energy. Thus, it is necessary to have specific regulations and guidelines to encourage and develop rooftop solar power with the participation from the state management agencies at all levels to prevent rampant development, ensure operation and reliability of the power system.
Integrating rooftop solar power to the grid is considered one of the effective solutions. On May 15, 2023, the Prime Minister issued a Decision to approve for the national electricity development planning for 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2050. Hopefully, the mechanism will be issued soon to guide the development of rooftop solar power in the next stage so as to encourage and attract participating people and businesses.
