Bac Giang sustainably escapes from poverty by labor export

Updated: 08:56, 18/12/2023
BAC GIANG - Along with efforts to transform livelihoods and create jobs for local ethnic people,  Son Dong district (Bac Giang province) has recently focused on propagating and supporting people to work overseas.

The spacious new house of Tran Van Nuoi (born in 1989), San Chi ethnic group in Trung Son village, Le Vien commune stands out in the village. Nuoi's father Tran Van Sang said this property is the result of Nuoi and his wife after working in Republic of Korea (RoK) over the past 4 years.

About 5 years ago, Nuoi and his wife settled down with a dowry of a small house located right next to Highway 31. After studying a course of motorbike repair, he borrowed money from friends to open a store at home. However, due to lack of experience and little investment capital, the store had few customers and soon went close.

In 2019, when staff from the District Bank for Social Policies propagated about the loan program to export labor to RoK, Nuoi decided to learn foreign language to "go working abroad".

After a few months, seeing that the job was stable and the income was good, his wife also came over, bringing the couple closer together and increasing their income. Currently, excluding expenses, the couple sends home more than 60 million VND per month.

According to statistics from the Division of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs in Son Dong district, the entire district has more than 900 people working abroad under contract. Since early this year, 110 labourers have been sent to worked overseas, mostly in the RoK, Japan, Germany...

The assessment proves that labor export helps many households have the conditions to renovate their houses, escape poverty and even startup a business.

For labor export activities, Son Dong district offers very specific solutions, especially promoting propaganda and consulting to help people understand and feel secure when becoming guest workers.

With the role of loan support, the District Social Policy Bank coordinates with relevant agencies and units to organize propaganda, distribute leaflets on support programs and policies. Thanks to that, since the beginning of this year, the district Social Policy Bank has disbursed loans for 39 workers to work overseas with a total amount of more than 3.4 billion VND, including margin loans to work in RoK for 22 workers, each receiving 100 million VND.
