Bac Giang’s athlete breaks third record at national sports festival

(BGO) – After grasping 2 golds at women’s 1,500-meter and 5,000-meter race, Bac Giang born athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh completed all competition events at the National Sports Festival 2018 in the morning of December 1 with her forte of 3,000 - meter steeplechase.

As the champion for years and current bronze winner at the 18th Asian Games, Oanh was considered as the No.1 seed in this category, that was proved in her race. She perfectly conquered the hurdles on the racetrack by the light and tough moves hence left the first runner-up behind with a distance of nearly 200 meters at the finish line.

Additionally, the outstanding achievement of 9 minutes 56 seconds 8 helped Oanh break the record at this National Sports Festival (old record was created with 10 minutes 2 seconds 98).

Nguyen Thi Huong (Quang Binh province) and Lo Thi Thanh (Son La) were the first and second runner-up respectively at the event.

Bac Giang sports delegation successfully completed the track and field at the festival with 3 gold medals gained by Nguyen Thi Oanh – the champion. With three new records, Oanh will surely secure the best athlete title at 2018 National Sports Festival.

Nguyen Thi Oanh once more time receives the “hot” cash award from the leader of Bac Giang sports delegation.

In the medal tally as of 11:30 am on December 1, Bac Giang delegation rank the 20 position with 4 golds, 1 silver and 3 bronzes while Thai Nguyen athletes overpassed Bac Giang team to the first place in the mountainous areas’ medal tally with 5 golds, 6 silvers and 2 bronzes.
