Bac Giang’s students are eager to study local history

(BGO) – The various playground, contest, drama and art performance have helped the students and members of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union suck the historic knowledge easily and effectively, which has been executed by Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers’ Organization in Song Khe commune and Union of Young Pioneers’ Organizations in Nguyen Khac Nhu Secondary School (Bac Giang city) for years.

In Nguyen Khac Nhu Secondary School, the students have history lessons not only at the classroom but also at the relics, temples, museums or a traditional handicraft production facilities. It is an effective method of learning and teaching in the school.

In early October, the small yard at the temple of Dao Toan Man (or Dao Toan Ban) who was father of Laureate Dao Su Tich was excited by the present of more than 200 students of the school, gathering for the “Ring the Golden Bell” contest under the theme of “Studying about the Laureate’s hometown”.

A set of 20 questions prepared by the organization board mostly focused on the knowledge of history and geology of Song Khe land; life and career of Doctor Dao Toan Man, ranging from simple question of “how many villages are there in Song Khe commune?” to difficult one of “why was Doctor Dao Toan Man bestowed the baldaquin with 5 precious letters Phu tu dong dang khoa (both father and son are honored laureate)?”.

“Via these activities, we further understand about the places, historic relics, the formation process of the land where we were born and grown up. The knowledge from the actual study is easier for us to understand and remember”, said Ninh Thi Hong Phuc, a student at class 9A.

Since the beginning of this academic year, the school’s Union of Young Pioneers’ Organizations has coordinated with Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers’ Organization in Song Khe commune to make a plan themed “I love history” with monthly diverse contents.

Accordingly, several outings have been held at the provincial Museum; Military Command; traditional handicraft villages of Ke rice cracker making (Dinh Ke ward) and shrimp trap weaving (Song Khe commune) among others. Each event helps inspire the students’ passion for this subject.

Teacher Le Thi Thu Ha, Head of the Union of Young Pioneers’ Organizations in Nguyen Khac Nhu Secondary School shared: “During the implementation, the school is always accompanied by the communal Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers’ Organization, the Veteran Association, officers, revolutionary senior staff to support in term of facilities, knowledge consultation and data supply; hence, helping the students respect their predecessor’s sacrifice and devotion so as to target at better striving and training”.

Thanks to the good connection between the education of local history and academic scheme, Nguyen Khac Nhu secondary school has topped the quality of history education for years. Particularly, in the academic year 2017 – 2018, nearly 70 percent of the students achieved good and excellent results in this subject while annually, 2 to 3 student in the school win prize at the municipal contest for the excellent student in history.

The Ministry of Education and Training held a ceremony on October 19 to honor the Vietnamese winners of international Olympiads in 2018.
