The initiative is designed to strengthen primary healthcare capacity, improve health education, and enhance early detection and management of non-communicable diseases, with a strong focus on digital transformation and AI applications.
Initial results show that at Bac Ninh General Hospital No. 2, Bac Ninh Lung Hospital No. 2 and Yen Phong Medical Center, AI has analyzed more than 24,600 chest X-rays. Nearly 2,900 scans revealed lung nodules, including more than 300 identified as high risk.
The AI system has helped doctors detect tuberculosis and potential cancer cases earlier while also reducing film reading time and supporting clinical decisions.
The programme will also integrate software tools to screen for risk factors of cardiovascular, pulmonary and kidney diseases. Training courses are being planned for medical staff at various levels to ensure the technology is effectively deployed.
Looking ahead, Bac Ninh’s Department of Health and AstraZeneca plan to apply AI in cervical examination to support early screening for cervical cancer, further expanding the scope of smart healthcare services.
The collaboration underscores Bac Ninh’s ambition to become a model locality for modern healthcare in Vietnam where AI and digital solutions play a central role in disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
