Vietnam’s top female badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh, ranked 18th in the world, was unable to defend her title after losing 0-2 to Cai Yan Yan of China (world No. 107) in the women’s singles final of Yonex-Sunrise Vietnam Open 2025.

Despite the straight-sets defeat on September 14, Linh impressed with her strong run to the final on home soil. Backed by passionate local supporters, she reaffirmed her status as Vietnam’s No. 1 female shuttler and a key hope for the nation on the international stage.
In the men’s singles, Nguyen Hai Dang suffered a narrow 1-2 loss to Wang Zi Jun of China. In the men’s doubles, Nguyen Dinh Hoang and Tran Dinh Manh were also edged out 1-2 by Chen Sheng Fa and Lu Chen of Chinese Taipei.
Meanwhile, legendary Vietnamese player Nguyen Tien Minh exited in the qualifiers, drawing regret from fans as he closed his campaign.
The Vietnam Open 2025 is part of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) international circuit, offering total prize money of 110,000 USD and attracting nearly 300 players from 20 countries and territories.
