Bac Ninh plans 110-ha inland container depot to boost logistics infrastructure

Updated: 13:37, 07/05/2026

BAC NINH – The provincial authorities in Bac Ninh are moving ahead with detailed planning for the Chau Phong inland container depot (ICD), a logistics project spanning more than 110 hectares aimed at strengthening regional supply chains and supporting Vietnam’s national dry port network.

The project’s 1/500-scale detailed planning scheme is being prepared by Lach Huyen International Deep Sea Port Industrial Park and Logistics JSC, with completion expected within six months.

The future Chau Phong ICD, together with the existing Tan Cang Que Vo Inland Container Depot, is expected to improve cargo transport capacity across the region.

The planned ICD will be located across Dao Vien Ward, Nhan Thang Commune and Phu Lang Commune in Que Vo urban area.

The site is positioned near National Highway 18 to the North, the Duong River to the South and the Binh Than bridge interchange to the East, providing multimodal transport connectivity.

Designed capacity is projected at between 10 million and 12 million tonnes of cargo annually, according to local authorities.

The project forms part of Bac Ninh’s broader push to expand logistics infrastructure and improve freight connectivity for industrial parks and manufacturing hubs in the province and neighboring areas.

Planning documents emphasize the development of a “green and smart” logistics hub. More than 80% of rooftop areas are expected to be equipped with solar power systems combined with energy storage facilities. Infrastructure will also be designed to support electric trucks, electric barges and automated cargo-handling systems.

Domestic wastewater at the facility is required to be treated using biological technology for reuse, while all wastewater discharged from the project must meet environmental standards.

Once operational, Chau Phong ICD is expected to serve as a key import-export, storage and distribution center for industrial goods in Northern Vietnam. It would help businesses optimize supply chains, reduce logistics costs and create new growth momentum for Que Vo urban area and the wider Bac Ninh economy.
