Bac Ninh pushes development of rural industrial products
BAC NINH - Bac Ninh province is tapping its strong potential to develop rural industrial products, supported by a dense network of craft villages and long-standing traditional trades that produce handicrafts, processed agricultural goods, timber products and food items. Local authorities have introduced a range of support measures to help these products expand in scale and market reach.
The household woodworking trade in Bai Oi residential group of Bac Giang ward has existed for decades, producing artisanal wooden items that are popular among buyers.

Many local carpenters are invited to work across the country on interior furniture and wooden house construction. Today, dozens of workers from other areas come to the village to learn and practise the craft.
In 2014, the Bai Oi Woodworking Cooperative was established, marking a new phase of development. Its members invested in modern machinery such as CNC cutters, carving machines, lathes, saws and wood-drying kilns, replacing manual labour and enabling the creation of higher-value items.
A standout example is tray and cup set made from Burretiodendron wood, which was recognised by the provincial authorities as a typical rural industrial product in 2014.
Nguyen Dinh Thinh, Director of the Bai Oi Woodworking Cooperative, said that since the province launched its first rural industrial product awards in 2014, the village has had six product sets certified as “Typical Rural Industrial Products”. This recognition has enhanced the reputation and market value of Bai Oi’s wooden products.
Not only craft villages and cooperatives, but many rural enterprises in the province have also had their products recognised at the provincial, regional and national levels since 2014.
In early November, the provincial council selected 22 products as Bac Ninh’s typical rural industrial products for 2025, out of 39 entries from 24 rural industrial facilities. Nine of the 22 selected products were recommended to compete at the regional level. The selection process is held every two years.
This year marks the first time that the newly merged province has organised a provincial-level selection. Previously, the former provinces of Bac Giang and Bac Ninh had jointly held 11 selection rounds in total, attracting hundreds of participating producers and recognising 188 products, including 40 regional-level and 12 national-level winners.
