Bac Ninh’s efforts to bring OCOP products farther

BAC NINH- With many practical support policies, the “One commune one product” (OCOP) programme has become a “platform” to help Bac Ninh’s local products reach farther and affirm their trademark in domestic and international markets.

Several agricultural products and traditional handicraft villages have been leveled up in both quality and quantity, expanding their consumption markets.

In order to develop and improve the quality of OCOP products, the former Bac Ninh and Bac Giang provinces provided financial support to OCOP products in combination with support policies for producers including machinery, packaging, labeling, intellectual property and trade promotion.

Accessing support policies, a number of households, cooperatives and businesses have changed their production mindset and concentrated on improving both quality and packaging design to meet market standards.

Several facilities applied advanced production procedures meeting international standards such as ISO 22000:2018, HACCP, VietGAP and GlobalGAP and invested in free drying system for farm produce, filling and bottling lines and high-tech kilns.

Production procedures have been standardized, ensuring food hygiene and safety and reducing environmental pollution; thus, product quality and values have been dramatically improved.

Previously, many nem Bui (pork fermented) facilities in Ninh Xa ward still relied on manual processing and simple packaging.

Since participating in the OCOP programme, the producers have invested in machinery, applied food safety procedures and printed traceability stamps with QR codes, thereby the product quality, packaging and design have been sharply enhanced.

As one of the earliest participants in the OCOP programme, Trai Lam Thuan Huong Rice Noodle Production and Trading Cooperative (in Nam Duong commune) has 4 products rated 3 or 4 stars at province level.

According to the statistics, the province currently has 773 OCOP products rated at least 3 stars including 1 five-star product, 114 four-star and 658 three-star products.

The product values increased about 15 percent compared to previous year, contributing to heightening income, improving people’s living standards and promoting the new-style rural area programme.

The proactive development and implementation of support policies have become an important driving force in improving the quality and affirming trademark of OCOP products.

With appropriate strategies and engagement of all-level party committee and government, OCOP programme is expected to continue helping local products go farther and make practical contributions to socio-economic development of the province.
