Bac Ninh promotes OCOP products as tourism “ambassadors”

Updated: 16:11, 24/08/2025

BAC NINH - Bac Ninh, a land renowned for its scenic landscapes and cultural heritage, has increasingly left lasting impressions on visitors through products rich in local identity. In recent years, the province has focused on developing the “One Commune, One Product” (OCOP) programme, turning distinctive specialties into symbolic “ambassadors” to promote tourism and attract travelers.

Boosting OCOP products

The province now boasts 773 OCOP products, including one rated five stars (Hong Xuan lychee from Luc Ngan), 114 four-star products, and 658 three-star products.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Pham Van Thinh join a livestream selling OCOP product in Phuc Hoa commune.

Beyond agricultural produce and local specialties, Bac Ninh’s OCOP products embody cultural and historical values as well as the essence of the Kinh Bac region. Developing high-standard agricultural products linked with tourism has helped maximize investment resources while strengthening the province’s non-smoke industry.

OCOP offerings are diverse, ranging from food and beverages to handicrafts, furniture, decorations and tourism services. Outstanding examples include Luc Ngan lychee, An Binh honey, Tay Yen Tu herbal wine, pomelo-ginger tea with star anise, Dong Ho folk paintings and Bau Tien eco-tourism sites.

Each reflects the richness of nature and the artistry of local communities. A cup of fragrant “golden camellia tea,” a sweet “Dong Phu custard apple,” a sip of strong “royal wine,” or the distinctive brushstrokes of Dong Ho woodblock prints all carry the flavors and soul of Bac Ninh. These products are frequently chosen as gifts by provincial leaders for delegations, enterprises and guests at home and abroad.

According to Mai Son, Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, presenting OCOP products to enterprises demonstrates both hospitality and respect for the farmers, cooperatives and businesses who have transformed Bac Ninh’s produce into high-quality goods.

This practice not only brings income to producers and contributes to state revenue but also conveys a meaningful message to domestic and international friends about a traditional yet dynamic and welcoming land.

Visitors and delegations receiving such gifts often express delight and surprise at Bac Ninh’s wealth of distinctive, long-standing agricultural and craft products.

During the 2025 New Year celebrations, Singapore’s Ambassador to Vietnam, Jaya Ratnam, voiced deep impressions and hope that Bac Ninh’s OCOP products would expand further into international markets.

Linking tourism with OCOP

Integrating tourism development with OCOP has become a strategic priority, making Bac Ninh increasingly attractive to tourists.

By leveraging natural landscapes, cultural relics, heritage, and unique products, the province has been able to draw both domestic and foreign visitors, creating momentum for local economic growth. Among the highlights are experiential tours during lychee harvest season.

This year, Tru Huu Tourism Cooperative organized visits for nearly 60 tourists from Japan and France, who explored lush lychee orchards and the traditional Thu Duong craft village, known for Chu rice noodles.

Other cooperatives and enterprises in Bac Ninh and Hanoi have also partnered to welcome thousands of visitors from Hanoi, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Ninh Binh and Ho Chi Minh City.

Tourists enjoy picking ripe lychees, tasting them fresh in the orchards, and immersing themselves in the fruit-laden scenery.

In addition to fruit farms, Bac Ninh’s historical and cultural sites—such as the Temple of King Duong Vuong, Dong Ho folk painting village, Phat Tich Pagoda, Do Temple, Vinh Nghiem Pagoda, the Bac Ninh Quan Ho Folk Song Theater, Lim Festival, Sloong Hao singing festival and particularly the Tay Yen Tu Spring Festival—draw tens of thousands of visitors.

Vineyards, citrus groves, custard apple orchards and eco-tourism sites scattered across the province not only generate income for farmers but also provide ideal escapes for travelers seeking nature.

Alongside local tourism, Bac Ninh has actively promoted its OCOP products at major events such as the VITM-Hanoi Tourism Fair, the Vietnam-China International Trade and Tourism Fair, and the 2024 Bac Ninh Trade and OCOP Fair.

At festivals including Xuong Giang, Tay Yen Tu, Lim, and Ba Chua Kho Temple, dedicated booths showcase and sell OCOP products. These efforts both highlight achievements in agriculture, processing, and handicrafts and serve as opportunities to attract investment, expand distribution, and draw more visitors.

OCOP products are increasingly more than just specialties—they are cultural bridges linking tourists with Bac Ninh’s heritage. Each product carries not only unique flavors but also stories that open new journeys of discovery.

According to Luu Van Khai, Head of Bac Ninh’s Cooperative Economy and Rural Development Division, the province plans to sign agreements with the Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center to strengthen tourism promotion through OCOP.

The aim is to use tourism activities as a driver for OCOP consumption, positioning these products as “ambassadors” that both market the province and attract more visitors.

Developing OCOP products enhances local branding, creates unique appeal and positions Bac Ninh as a captivating destination where every traveler leaves with lasting impressions.

With new orientations and positive outcomes, Bac Ninh is opening opportunities to develop an integrated tourism-agriculture-rural economy, contributing to its path of sustainable growth and global integration.
