Ha’s love for piano has been grown since she followed music performance programmes on television and internet. Sweet melodies and images of the artists immersed in playing the piano attracted this little student.

Nguyen Thi Thu Ha attends the 2026 Hong Kong International Music Festival.

She watched each move of their fingers on the piano keys when she felt curious about the sounds and impressed at the ability of expressing emotion through music.

Although no one in her family has an artistic background, Ha’s mother named Chu Thi Lan Nhi decided to allow her to learn the piano when she realized her daughter’s passion for this music instrument 4 years ago.

Learning to play the piano is a journey that requires persistence, continuous learning and practice.

With her determination, Ha has gradually built up her musical knowledge, practiced techniques, mastered rhythm and developed her musical appreciation.

This journey has given her confidence to challenge herself in both domestic and international music arenas.

Ha chose a composition of Frédéric Chopin Waltz in A minor to compete at the 2026 Hong Kong International Music Festival.

“In performing this masterpiece, I must ensure accuracy of every note, master rhythm and musical expression, as well as convey full emotion to the audiences”, said Ha.

It is a challenge for a beginner on the journey of conquering the piano. On the stage, this girl performed the masterpiece with high concentration and great love for music when she produced deeply soft melodies to immerse audiences in an emotional music space.

“When the Organizing Board announced the competition results, I was overwhelmed with surprise, joy and emotion. I felt my efforts and hard-working practices were recognised. For me, this is not just an award but also a motivation to try harder because I understand that when we truly love and strictly pursue something, we can go further”, Ha added.

“Ha is a smart student who has good musical ear and ability to learn quickly. She has worked very hard to achieve every goal she set to improve her skills. In preparation for the 2026 Hong Kong International Music Festival, she and I spent a lot of time for practicing. Some verses we had to practice many times so that Ha could both master the techniques and convey the emotion of the masterpiece. I want her to take part in competitions not just to win awards, but also to grow, become more confident and love the piano more through each contest”, said Tran Truc Quynh, Ha’s piano teacher.
