A performance to celebrate the recognition of Cam Giang as a new rural district.

In 2018, the district’s economy grew by 17.1% against the previous year, with the income per capita reaching VND42.5 million (US$1,800), up VND18.8 million compared with 2013.

Cam Giang’s poverty rate also dropped from 4.17% in 2013 to 1.47% as of June 2018.

With these results, the Prime Minister issued a decision last November to recognize Cam Giang district as having met the new rural standards.

Under the rural modernization programme, which was started in 2010, a commune must meet 19 sets of criteria, ranging from infrastructure and economic development to culture and education, to be recognized as a new rural area.

At the same ceremony, Deputy PM Hue handed the certificates to recognize the Mao Dien Temple of Literature and two temples in Cam Giang district as national sites.

Mao Dien is one of the oldest surviving Confucian temples in Vietnam, following the Temple of Literature in Hanoi.

It was built in the 15th century under the Le Dynasty and was where the imperial examination for candidates from Hai Duong province took place.

Today it is a symbol to encourage learning in Hai Duong province.
