Glorious journey of Bac Ninh’s athletes at 33rd SEA Games
BAC NINH- In the festive atmosphere of the New Year of the Horse, the sweet and resounding victory of Vietnam sports at the 33rd SEA Games is still in the hearts of fans. The journey of glorious achievements marked the great efforts, courageous spirit, determination, aspiration and dedication of Bac Ninh’s athletes.
The most impressive moment in the streak of victories of Vietnam sports delegation at the 33rd SEA Games was when “the Athletics Queen” Nguyen Thi Oanh claimed first place in the 5,000 m, 10,000 m, and 3,000 m steeplechase.

The 3 gold medals helped the Bac Ninh-born runner made the history as one of the 3 most successful athletes at the Southeast Asian Games, equaling the record haul of 15 gold medals by legends Jennifer Tin Lay of Myanmar and Elma Muros of the Philippines.
Oanh won gold medals for 5 consecutive SEA Games editions (from 2017 to 2025), the first Vietnamese athlete claiming 4 gold medals at one single edition of the Games.
Besides, she bagged medals at Asian track and field tournament and set a series of national records. At the age of 30, this “golden girl” still affirms her class with powerful bursts of speed, leaving her rivals well behind.

Nguyen Duy Tuyen is another athlete continuing the streak of success through 5 SEA Games editions at pencak silat. Competing at the finale in men’s 90kg event against the strong opponent from Singapore, the Bac Ninh-born fighter drew attention with his legs heavily bandaged from an injury that had not fully recovered. Tuyen showed an indomitable fighting spirit.
With experience and composure of the world, Asian and regional champion, he accurately read the Singaporean opponent before delivering a series of decisive attacks that racked up points and sealed a dominant 26–5 win.
It was the 5th SEA Games gold medals in the career of this 31-year-old fighter, setting new benchmark for Vietnam’s Pencak Silat.
On the race track of men’s team duathlon, the battle-hardened athlete Pham Tien San once again wowed the fans with by astonishing resilience at his age of 34.
In the 3 events including 2km running, 8km cycling and 1km running, he competed like a “warrior” with blistering runs and lightning-fast cycling together with his teammates to finish first with a combined time of 1 hour 6 minutes 52.55 seconds.
This was the 3rd gold medal of Pham Tien San at 3 consecutive SEA Games editions (the 31st, 32nd and 33rd) in duathlon, one of the most grueling sports at SEA Games.
For wushu artist Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy, victory became a familiar outcome through 2025. Completely overpowering her opponent in the women’s 60kg sanda final, Thu Thuy needed less than two minutes to secure the gold medal. Her success has been achieved by relentless training, indomitable will and iron discipline.

The above-mentioned gold medals demonstrated class of elite experienced athletes while the gold medal gained by young wrestler Do Ngoc Linh brought high hope for Bac Ninh sports.
Attending SEA Games for the first time at the age of 21, Do Ngoc Linh showed her talent, wonderful competitive composure and intelligence when she won all 4 matches from the qualifying to final rounds with a commanding 10-0 scoreline.
Although they did not win gold medals in other games, Bac Ninh’s athletes left impression with their indomitable fighting spirit, fair play, sportsmanship and respect for the rules.
The 33rd SEA Games witnessed extraordinary efforts of the athletes, a powerful motivation for Bac Ninh sports to move forward with pride and excitement in the early days of the New Year of the Horse.
