The projects are funded under the province's Energy Efficiency and Conservation Programme, which supports the installation of renewable energy systems in rural communities, schools and public buildings.

Officials say the initiative not only reduces operating expenses but also raises public awareness of environmental protection and efficient energy use.

One of the most visible examples is Mai To village in Luc Ngan commune, where residents had previously financed and maintained a conventional public lighting system on their own.

Between 2015 and 2017, villagers contributed more than 500 million VND (about 19,000 USD) to install 260 streetlights along nearly 4 km of rural roads.

However, they continued to shoulder monthly electricity bills of around 6 million VND, in addition to maintenance and replacement costs. For an agriculture-dependent community, the expense placed a considerable burden on local households.

In early 2025, the provincial Industry and Trade Development Center, formerly the Bac Giang Industrial Promotion and Trade Promotion Center, invested more than 300 million VND to install a solar-powered lighting system in the village.

The project includes 21 solar streetlights rated at 50 watts along main roads and eight 90-watt floodlights serving community cultural centers in four residential clusters.

Village head Hoang Van Nam said the transition to solar energy has significantly reduced electricity costs while protecting residents from future power price increases. The project has received broad support from the local community.

In 2024, the Nguyen Van Cu Political School in Bac Ninh, formerly the Bac Giang Political School, installed a rooftop solar power system worth more than 350 million VND on its main building.

The system consists of 38 solar panels with a combined capacity of 20.9 kWp connected to a 20-kW inverter and integrated into the school's existing electricity network. After two years of operation, it has supplied stable electricity for teaching and administrative activities.

School officials estimate that electricity bills during the summer peak season typically range from 50 million to 60 million VND per month. The rooftop solar system has reduced those costs by approximately 20%.

Vice Principal Le Dinh Vi said the school occupies about four hectares with thousands of square meters of rooftop space suitable for additional solar panels.

Because most teaching activities take place during daylight hours, expanding the system would further increase the supply of clean electricity while lowering long-term energy costs.

Under the 2026 Energy Efficiency and Conservation Programme, the Industry and Trade Development Center is implementing four projects focused on high-efficiency equipment and renewable energy applications for public and school lighting.

One project has installed 29 solar-powered streetlights in Chay and Muoi villages in Luc Ngan commune, with the system currently undergoing trial operation.

Another project will replace conventional lighting with high-efficiency LED systems at three schools, including Huong Vi Primary School, Doan Bai Secondary School and Tien Luc No. 5 Primary School.

A rooftop solar power system is installed on the main building of Nguyen Van Cu Political School.

The installations are expected to be completed in August 2026. Combined investment for the two projects exceeds 688 million VND.

According to the center, the pilot projects are intended to evaluate new technologies and create models that can be replicated throughout the province.

Officials say the projects provide practical examples of energy-saving solutions while encouraging students, teachers, government employees and local residents to adopt more efficient energy practices.

From solar-powered rural roads to rooftop photovoltaic systems on public buildings, the province's renewable energy initiatives are helping reduce electricity consumption, strengthen energy security and lower carbon emissions.

Local authorities expect the projects to support Bac Ninh's long-term sustainable development goals while accelerating the transition toward greener energy use.
