Long Thanh Airport requires 14,000 workers for 2026

Updated: 21:01, 14/03/2024
After entering the first phase of operation in 2026, the Long Thanh Airport will need 14,000 workers to operate it, according to the Dong Nai People's Committee.

At a Wednesday conference on training operators of the Long Thanh Airport, Vo Tan Duc, acting chairman of the People’s Committee of southern Dong Nai Province, said that among the 14,000 workers needed to operate the airport, over 5,000 would have university degrees at least.

The main workforce will be leaders and managers that directly manage and provide services for the airport, including flight operation.

Invested with around VND336.63 trillion ($16 billion), Long Thanh is slated to replace Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh City as Vietnam's largest airport, with a capacity of 100 million passengers and 5 million tons of goods a year.

Its first phase of operation would allow a capacity of 25 million passengers a year, and the airport is expected to enter this phase in 2026.

A representative of the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) said that once the Long Thanh airport enters operation, flights that span over 1,000 km would mainly be at Long Thanh, so personnel should be trained in the maintenance and repair of aircrafts.

Training facilities should also pay attention to high-quality workers for IT, databases, biometrics and other fields.

A representative of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said there must be personnel to manage state entities and those operating the airport.

Tran Hoai An, president of the Vietnam Aviation Academy, said that starting 2020, the school had increased the number of admissions to satisfy the labor demand of the Long Thanh Airport. Every year, the academy has around 200 engineers graduating, and hundreds of engineers studying aviation business.

Nguyen Hong Linh, Party Secretary of Dong Nai, said Dong Nai has reserved around 1,000 ha of land for the sake of attracting high-quality training facilities.

Linh said the training of personnel for the airport should prioritize citizens affected by the project.

"It would not really be acceptable for the airport to operate, without local young people being trained to work there," he said, adding that education facilities should cooperate with ACV to list open positions at the airport, so locals know how to focus their education.
