Luc Ngan harvests nearly 17,000 tons of oranges and grapefruits

BAC GIANG - To date, local farmers in Luc Ngan district (Bac Giang province) have harvested nearly 17,000 tons of oranges and grapefruits (reaching more than 41 percent of the total estimated output), including nearly 11,000 tonnes of yellow flesh oranges, more than 2,000 tonnes of green-skinned grapefruit, over 3,000 tonnes of other grapefruits and citrus fruits, reported the district Division of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The fruits are sold smoothly at stable price, ranging from 20 – 25,000 VND per kg for yellow flesh oranges, 50 – 60,000 VND per kg for sweet oranges, 15 – 20,000 VND per fruit for grapefruits of all kinds. The main domestic markets are Hanoi, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Nam Dinh, Bac Ninh, Ninh Binh... and some southern provinces and cities.

The harvest season of orange and grapefruits is expected to last till the Lunar New Year.

Compared to previous years, local people have changed the cultivation methods, especially increasing the production area in line with VietGAP process, using organic fertilizers and biological plant protection drugs so the quality of products is improved.
