The play was written by Singaporean director Chua Soo Pong and adapted by Vietnamese Tuong artist Nguyen Si Chuc. It was directed by Vietnamese Meritorious Artist Dang Ba Tai and choreographed by Vietnamese Meritorious Artist Nguyen Khanh Toan.
The play’s narrative was developed from the story of a popular folktale in Singapore named ‘The legend of Bukit Merah’, which follows the struggles of Bukit Merah fishing villagers who must contend with an evil presence in the community.
According to the Director of Vietnam Tuong Theatre, ‘The Legend of Red Hill’ is the second cooperation project between the theatre and Singaporean director Chua Soo Pong, following their first play, ‘Duoi Bong Da Huyen Thoai’ (The Legendary Banyan Tree).
The cooperation projects have allowed Vietnamese tuong artists to learn more about the performing skills, costumes, stage designs and arrangement from their Singaporean colleagues.
