Phuc Hoa lychees fetch 150,000 VND per kilogram at orchard

Updated: 10:31, 18/05/2026

BAC NINH – For the first time in Phuc Hoa Commune in Bac Ninh Province, a “U trung” lychee orchard (the lychee variety is shaped like an egg with high quality) has produced a harvest of large, uniform and high-quality fruit, selling directly at the orchard for 150,000 VND (5.69 USD) per kilogram.

Ngo Van Cuong, a farmer in Quat Du 2 hamlet and the first local grower to cultivate this variety in Phuc Hoa, said he was delighted that his family’s orchard achieved such high selling prices this season.

“U trung” lychees packed in boxes are being sold at orchard prices of 150,000 VND per kilogram.

The lychees, known for their large and evenly sized fruit, average only 17-18 fruits per kilogram and were purchased directly by traders at the orchard.

Cuong said he has spent more than seven years cultivating the variety and currently has 80 fruit-bearing trees. Output this season is estimated at around 2 tonnes.

All production has already been contracted by traders. In the first batch, more than 300 kilograms were supplied to supermarkets in Hanoi, while the remaining 1.7 tonnes are continuing to be harvested.

The variety has gained popularity among consumers and commands premium prices thanks to its attractive appearance, large fruit size and distinctive sweet flavour.

In addition to Cuong’s family, several other households in the commune have also begun planting the variety.

Local agricultural authorities have encouraged farmers to continue upgrading orchards by diversifying lychee varieties and staggering harvest periods to increase product value and better meet market demand.
