The government’s top leader was speaking at a meeting with his cabinet members in Hanoi on June 9, saying that the outcome of Vietnam’s fight against Covid-19 was certainly noteworthy, as nearly two months have passed with no new infections in the community, making the public feel both secure and happy.

The PM restated developmental priorities during this ‘new normal’ period, that is ensuring that Vietnam is viewed as a safe destination for sustainable development.

It is necessary to consider and study the world situation in conjunction with the domestic situation, he asked, urging for a reopening to the world in the near future, not only focusing on the economy but also on political and diplomatic ties, especially with partners whose epidemics have been significantly brought under control.

He stressed the need to continue strengthening the Covid-19 fight, particularly in border areas and at border gates, along roads, and on waterways and air routes.

Apart from facilitating the return of Vietnamese citizens from abroad, it is important to promote socio-economic development in the ‘new normal’, the PM said, stressing the need to continue to take care of social security for people so as to not leave anyone behind.

Another issue of concern is the continued application of appropriate quarantine measures to not let entry from abroad infect the community.

The PM asked to avoid limiting the number of flights carrying Vietnamese experts, business people, students, the elderly and others stranded in foreign nations back home, while enabling foreign experts, investors, and skilled workers to enter Vietnam to seek investment and job opportunities.

He assigned the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control to announce safe zones for reopening flights to destinations where no Covid-19 cases have been detected for 30 days or more.

He also agreed to allow the reopening of discotheques and karaoke services.
