RoK capital fuels Bac Ninh’s rise as a high-tech hub

Updated: 11:15, 29/09/2026

BAC NINH - With its strategic location and continuously improving investment and business environment, Bac Ninh is strengthening its position as a leading destination for international investors in high-tech industries, supporting industries, and the digital economy. The Republic of Korea (RoK) ranks first in terms of registered investment capital among the 47 countries and territories investing in the province.

Over the past eight months, Bac Ninh has attracted 241 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with total registered capital of more than 3.204 billion USD, bringing the cumulative number of FDI projects in the province to 3,695, with total adjusted investment capital reaching nearly 52 billion USD.

The province’s total industrial production value exceeded 2.2 quadrillion VND (84.7 billion USD), up 17.49% year on year, while the foreign-invested sector accounted for an estimated 2.089 quadrillion VND, up 18.11% year on year.

As of August 31, 2026, the RoK ranked first in Bac Ninh in terms of investment capital, with total registered capital reaching 16.7 billion USD, accounting for nearly 17% of the total capital invested by Korean enterprises in Vietnam, across 1,165 valid projects.

The strong investment ties have also contributed to bilateral trade, with Bac Ninh’s import and export turnover with the RoK exceeding 44 billion USD in the first eight months of 2026 alone.

Korean enterprises have played a particularly important role in Bac Ninh’s industrial development and its success in attracting foreign investment.

Investment from the RoK has not only expanded in scale but has also gradually shifted toward sectors with higher technological content and greater added value.

A major milestone came in 2008, when Samsung invested in a mobile phone manufacturing plant at Yen Phong I Industrial Park, with initial registered capital of 670 million USD.

The project generated significant spillover effects, helping trigger a strong wave of FDI into the province.

After years of attracting investment, Bac Ninh is steadily strengthening its position in global supply chains, moving beyond conventional manufacturing toward higher value-added activities such as research and development (R&D), design, high-tech component manufacturing, logistics, and clean energy.

In particular, the presence of major RoK technology projects, including Samsung Display (8.3 billion USD), Samsung Electronics (2.5 billion USD), and Amkor (1.6 billion USD), together with projects by Novacos, Seojin, Hana Micron, Hanwha Techwin, Intops, and others, has helped build a comprehensive ecosystem spanning electronics, semiconductors, and supporting industries.

These investments have helped transform Bac Ninh from an assembly base into one of Vietnam’s leading high-tech industrial centres.
