Successful preservation of Dang Shen’s genetic resource

(BGO) - The provincial Department of Science and Technology has accepted the scientific project at provincial level titled “Researching, evaluating and preserving the genetic resources of Sam Nam Nui Danh (Danh Mountain’s radix codonopsis javanicae or Dang Shen) in Bac Giang province” conducted by the Research and Development Center for High Technology Agriculture (Hanoi) from September 2015 to August 2018.

The research was focused on the distribution and growth of Dang Shen in the province, its scientific name and pharmaceutical values, proposal of genetic preservation method and technical training course to local people.

According to the research result, this plant is suitable to the local soil properties, hence well grows in the province. It is also called Cat Sam, Sam Nam or Sam Nam Nui Danh. This plant is bred by tissue culturing and layering methods with high survival rates.

The project is highly evaluated by the scientists in preserving and developing the rare flora genetic resources, which serves as a basis for the scientists to continue researching and selecting the seedlings for local people to expand their production.
