Volumes were up 22% from a year earlier while the average export price was up 12% to $1,649 per ton, customs data shows.

Vietnam’s total exports during the period were 77,256 tons worth 143.5 million USD, down 9.8% in volume but only 1.5% down in value. The average export price grew by 4.5% year-on-year to 1,778  USD per ton.

Exports to Russia and Saudi Arabia jumped by 15% and 27%. Shipments to Pakistan, a major market, more than halved due to recently added halal requirements.

The Export-Import Department said export prices rose as overseas demand has been shifting from raw tea to higher-value products like oolong tea, processed green tea, and flavored tea.

It expects shipments to increase and prices to stay high in the last quarter of this year, driven by festive demand in Asia, the Middle East, and North America.
